Dragons

Before you floats a creature made of shifting aurora borealis lights surrounding a glowing core, a dragon.
Where is the border between magic phenomenon and living creature?

Basic Information

Anatomy

Having mastered the art of weaving, they attract and bind the surrounding mana into fleeting fiery strings around their core. Their form changes with every movement, every thought and through the subtle stream of mana passing by.
The light, emitted by the core, reflects off the woven mana strings, giving them their fiery appearance.

The crystal forms the core of the creature and also houses the soul. It also serves as gravitational pull for surrounding mana. Mana particles are attracted and condensed around it.

The strings of light are mana particles weaved and condensed together, which now reflect the light emitted by the core, thus creating its fleeting, ever changing appearance based on the current flow of mana around it.

Growth Rate & Stages

These incorporeal and majestic creatures can be found wherever large amounts of mana are converted into void energy but mostly reign in the lands of a Great Spirit.
The deep bond between the Great Spirits and a dragon forms upon the creature's creation.

A dragon's birth is caused by a Great Spirit's need. Should they feel their mana supply decreasing, they create a crystal made up of extremely condensed mana. This core of the future dragon is then welded together with a soul of a diseased living creature. Its memories are wiped, leaving a blank canvas and a fresh start for the young dragon.

Especially during the first decades a dragon stays near the Great Spirit and does not wander off into the world. In this time it also learns and perfects the art of weaving, by observing its creator.

Once grown up and having served the Great Spirit for centuries, they venture forth, seeking out the imbalance within the mana cycle and keeping the balance not just within their former territory.

Although they live for an extensive time they are not immortal. Over time their core corrodes due to the relentless masses of energy attracted and weaved by it. Once the crystal is unable to withstand the external forces and breaks, the emitted light ceases to be and it shatters alongside the dragon's life.

These creatures die silent, their core often dissolving before it even touches the ground and the last fiery strings quickly fading.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Dragons do not have to eat or sleep for they have no real body to sustain and are moved by the crystals' will power and the mana around it.

As guardians of the natural order, they create ripples in the endless cycle of mana and void energy. Whenever there is a place where energy becomes stagnant, the dragons cause it to move once more, so that balance is restored.
