Temple of ???

At the very heart of the Storm Sea there stands a temple, half-built and with a purpose long since sunken beneath the waves. Neither it builders nor materials used can be named by the likes of northern Astuorë nor the eastern Ralisu, two people who most traverse the raging seas of the northeast.

The temple's foundations were built on a single rock just large and round enough for the perfectly eight-sided temple, as if the earth itself was purposefully lifted from the depths beneath the ocean waters. Stairs rose from the water up to the doorless temple, two sets approaching from opposite sides.

The walls were formed of an unknown stone seen nowhere in nature. The material seemed a simple, dark gray stone at a first glance, but visibly shifted its shades between subtle tones of bluish green and some manner of violet or purple depending on the angle one looked from. At night the stone's smooth surface became lighter than during the days under clear sunlight, when it darkened into something closer to black—though it was difficult to tell whether the phenomenon was simply some trick of light and shadow.

Most of the walls were halfway constructed, others less so, and most had collapsed either partially or entirely due to storms or other disasters. Within the temple, at the very center of the eight walls, was prepared a place for something of note—likely a statue or an altar. An octagonal foundation arose from the middle of an identically shaped and deceptively deep pool of water. Whatever was supposed to be placed on top evidently never made it to its destination, or was removed before the construction was abandoned.

All who had, at some point, witnessed the mysterious temple, came up with their own stories as to its origin or purpose. To the Ralisu, it was something of an affront—an old, abandoned temple to a god they viewed as hostile to themselves and their own patron deity dreaming in the deep.

The Astuorë, who prided themselves as masters of the Storm Sea, avoided the heart waters due to the temple and its influence. Their sages could not guide the winds nor calm the storms the way they could elsewhere when nearing the odd, out-of-the-way temple.

In the end, the temple became more of a curiosity than anything else, and it did not seem to do much of anything beyond existing. Some ships from the north coast of Ēwie approached out of curiosity at times, hoping to find some unknown treasure or answers to the mystery surrounding the entire location. Most come back disappointed, others silent.
