Elteläi

'Land of a Thousand Waters' was a nickname often bestowed upon the region known as Elteläi. The majority of it reached out southward from the central parts of the northern continent of Tenwä, creating vast swathes of water and land intertwining around each other like lace. It was first inhabited by the people of the Ancestral North, and it was from Elteläi that their descendants migrated west and north in later ages.

Geography

The defining feature of Elteläi were its many bodies of water and the islands within. The land itself was fairly even in altitude, with mellow hills and small cliffs bringing a modicum of change in the woody landscape. Where water did not cover the earth, the forest did. Pines, birch, oak, among many other trees brought a vibrant, deep green color to the region.

By far the largest body of water within Elteläi was Nelhelä, a vast lake with not a single island to spot its glimmering surface. For a long time it was the chosen wintering spot for many clans in the region, but later became infested with shapeshifting nelhei who, for an unknown reason, were drawn to the lake and its depths.

Climate

Elteläi was always a contested region due to its warmth and plentiful rain over summer months. Sun shone bright in the sky in-between cloudy days, bringing both life and light in the land of water. Winters brought cold winds from the north and a biting breeze from the eastern seas, but even those were mellow in comparison to rest of the continent.
