Bennington's Fish

Basic Information

Biological Cycle

Bennington's Fishes have to ingest large quantities of sulfur in order to maintain a good production from the algae.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Due to the legend surrounding The Divers' Meal, Bennington's Fish meat is highly expensive. Furthermore, if not cooked correct, one may acquire Sulficide, a condition that makes a person want to eat things containing sulfur, such as rotten eggs. This condition is due to the ingestion of a protein (called Sulfurin) produced by the algae that live in the fish's stomach. It is actually, this exactly protein, that makes the fish want to ingest sulfur as well. In order to cook it correctly, one must add Blue Sea Leaf on the soup, for it produces a neutralizing agent to the algae's toxin.    Bennington's Fish can be found amongst Charthorp and other cities of the Charcaron Empire. Although cheaper than if was sold on the land, it is still quite pricy to acquire the fishe's meat on these settlements.    A group of Libertarians is currently using the are of Entrenius' Grave to stash and hide large quantities of Bennington's Fish meat. They are trying to sell them to aid in their cause.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

Bennington's Fish has a very distinctive symbiotic relationship: at the start of its life, the fry of this species eat Colimatus calificentes, an algae that lodges itself inside special cavities in the fish's stomach and is capable of doing quimiosinthesys using hydrogen sulfide instead of carbon dioxide. As the fry grow into an adult, it starts gulping sulfur that emanates from deep abyssal sources. The sulfur is then utilized by the algae to produce sugar, and, in its symbiotic relationship, the algae expel most of their production for the fish to use (the algae gets a safe place to breed and live). This way, the fish manages to explore an abundant deep-sea resource that no one else is able to. This trait allowed Bennington's Fish to spread worldwide, being very common amongst trenches that has more than 3.000m in depth.   This relationship is so deep, and probably occurs for so much time now, that scientists believe neither species can survive without the other anymore.

Civilization and Culture
