Ryu Ichikawa (リュ イチカワ Ry-u I-chi-ka-wa)
Ryu was born into a wealthy Japanese family, though they spent much of their life in Korea as their father was a major stakeholder in Samsung. Despite their privilege, Ryu’s childhood was marked by loneliness, with distant parents who left him feeling neglected. He was bullied at school as the only Japanese kid, people made fun of him and blamed him for historical events they were taught. The kids called him "Jjokbari," a derogatory term meaning "split foot." Many might think that his family's wealth would have been a stepping stone for him, but his parents were far too strict and unfair. If he failed his grades, both teachers and parents would scold and punish him.
One day while rummaging through his deceased grandfather's belongings, Ryu discovered an old VHS player along with some VHS tapes of old Yakuza movies. He never met his grandfather but heard about him from his mother, he loved 80s-style Yakuza and gangster films, with their strong, over-the-top protagonists. Ryu watched all his grandfathers tapes and found solace in these movies, imagining that the wealth and power of the Yakuza could bring him the control and respect he lacked.
In his late teens, Ryu's world shattered when a car crash claimed his parents' lives, stripping him of his privileged life and forcing him to move to Japan. There, he was taken in by a distant aunt who cared only for the inheritance, leaving Ryu to suffer in poverty and near starvation. Eventually, he left her home, finding himself homeless on the streets of Okubo.
Grieving and feeling abandoned, Ryu’s desperation to reclaim his lost status led him to see the Yakuza, once a fantasy, as his only path to power and respect. Determined to restore what was taken from him, he longed to join the Yakuza, or rather any group powerfull enough, ready to pay any price for his redemption.
One night, while Ryu layed on the cold street, an older man in a gray suit, accompanied by a black cat, approached him. With an air of high status, the man offered Ryu a lifeline, an invitation to join the Hidora Clan, a Security Company that followed the values of the Yakuza. Inspired by the ideals his grandfather had once admired in the Yakuza, Ryu saw a chance to become a respected and chivalrous figure, someone who could make a difference and help others in need and swifftly accepted.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Ryu stands tall , well above the average yet there’s a strange softness to the way he carries himself. Not slouched, not tense just… elsewhere. His tailored navy-blue suit is buttoned neatly, its clean lines hinting at structure he doesn’t seem to notice. Underneath, a deep burgundy shirt sits partially unfastened at the collar, the only hint of heat in an otherwise cool silhouette. His gray shoes are quiet in tone but sharp in shape, and a muted pocket square rests in his chest pocket like a formality he remembered at the last second.
His face stays still, faraway. There’s no tension, no alertness just a lingering delay, like he’s always seconds behind the world. His pale eyes don’t quite meet yours, not because he’s avoiding you, but because he’s watching something no one else can see. Tousled ash-brown hair crests into a soft wave, pulled back loosely with strands falling as they please. Ryu isn’t absent he’s just elsewhere. And if you ask him what he’s thinking, don’t expect a short answer.
