Cutthroat Alley

In the old days, when Red City was Dig Zero, Cutthroat Alley was precisely that an alley down on the riverside among the ruins and prefabs. It was where the various gangs and crews involved in the First Dry War would settle conflicts. Usually with knife fights and now and then with sword fights..

The First Dry War though was over two centuries ago, times have moved on and so has the nature of Cutthroat Alley. Where it was a thoroughfare that was named for bloody conflict, now it is a different entity though the name does stick with it changed nature.

Currently occupying an old half completed warehouse (actually a skeleton) the Alley is place to get things at 'cutthroat' prices (rumours of a sausage in a bun vendor have been greatly exaggerated & never proven). In the main the bulk of these items are either stolen, bootleg or being sold by the desperate for cash. A recent feature though has been the sudden arrival of produce sellers.

In Krasnygorod things such as vegetables, fish, meat, alcohol, all have to be sold through the appropriate channels. This is to ensure that they meet appropriate production standards and more importantly they are taxed. Many claim the latter is more important than the former.

However in recent years a number of vendors have emerged selling produce, selling fish caught in the nearby river or off the beaches to the south, beer (homebrewed), vodak (homebrewed) as well as flowers. Given that the only crime these people are possibly committing is tax evasion the Militsiya turns a blind eye to such things. In fact it generally turns a blind eye to much of what goes on in Cutthroat Alley unless directed by HQ or violence erupts or some other serious matter (such as passing forged currency or documents).

Reynard the Fox, the self styled Tsar of Vorovkas, used to be the person in charge. A shadowy figure who ran the alley with a light touch. Now its claimed the vorovka gang Seven Bridges are in charge of the show. If they are they've adopted a similar style control to the Fox, as their is minimal interference in the day to day affairs of the alley. And no one is being squeezed for protection money.
