Broyoto
Broyoto was the proud capital of Vaskelholme, a beacon of Dwarven strength and culture. Its fall to the Bloom has been a devastating blow, yet it also serves as a rallying point for the Dwarves' unyielding spirit and determination to reclaim their lost glory. The city’s rich history, advanced industry, and cultural significance continue to inspire the people of Vaskelholme as they face the challenges of the Bloom.
The city itself consists of an Upper City, constructed as one would expect a normal above ground city to be built, and the Under City, an expansive underground construction built deep into the caverns and stone of the land.
The Upper City – "Skyreach Broyoto"
Built atop the jagged stone plateaus that overlook the glacial plains of northern Vashkelholme, the Upper City is the more visible and accessible portion of the capital. It serves as a beacon for travelers, traders, and emissaries from across Largitas.
Culture & Purpose:
The Upper City is outward-facing—a center of diplomacy, innovation, and trade. It’s where younger Dwarves mingle with other races, where merchants peddle their wares, and where BRASC envoys are received.
The Under City – "Heartdeep Broyoto "
Delving thousands of feet beneath the earth, the Under City is the soul of Dwarven civilization. Carved into naturally reinforced caverns and shaped by centuries of labor, it is lit by glowing fungus, enchanted crystal veins, and magma-light from the deeper forges.
Culture & Purpose:
The Under City is inward-facing—a place of memory, honor, and resilience. Every stone is steeped in tradition. Laws are older. Speech is slower. Yet even here, tensions stir as some seek to modernize the old ways to better resist the Bloom.
Religious and Symbolic Meaning
Many Dwarves believe that Broyoto mirrors the soul:
The Upper City = Mind, change, vision.
The Under City = Heart, roots, memory.
Rituals often begin on the surface and descend underground, mimicking the journey of life into death, or youth into wisdom.
In Summary:
Broyoto is a city of dualities—sky and stone, tradition and innovation, defense and diplomacy. It is the beating heart of Dwarven culture in Vashkelholme, a place where the roots run deeper than fear, and where the echoes of hammers, prayers, and memory will long outlast even the Bloom.
Broyoto is not just a city—it is a wound that refuses to rot. A monument to persistence, to stoicism, to the belief that stone may fracture, but it never forgets its shape.
I leave tomorrow at dawn, heavy with knowledge—and a little regret. I suspect I will never be welcome here again... but I was, for a moment, allowed to see the heart of the mountain.
And it beats still.
