Rorian
This is the name for someone from the Kingdom of Roris, but only when naturalized or born there. It is frowned upon to call yourself such without official recognition. Although there's no one race that's from Roris, you can still tell when someone is from there. Their attitudes, the way they hold themselves, and their fashion are all dead giveaways.
Naming Traditions
Family names
Family names are passed down through fathers. Women take their husbands name after marriage. Children take their father's surnames usually. If the father isn't in the picture they take their Mother's last name. If neither parents are known, the child takes the surname of "Fitz". If they are adopted then the parents have the choice to change the child's last name into their own.
Culture
Major language groups and dialects
Besides common, Elvish, Sylvan, Gnomish, and Halfling are the most common languages used. Along with the secret "language" of flowers known amongst the higher classes.
Shared customary codes and values
Beauty and power are the most common goals for Rorians. This, and family, comes before all. If you are perceived to have betrayed your family, or your family has let you down, it is regarded as the second highest taboo to participate in. Forgiveness and repentance is also heavily expected, only if it's genuine though.
Common Etiquette rules
When going to a formal meeting, it is common curtesy to bring a gift to the host of the gathering. The size of the gift both depends on the closeness of the individuals and the type of gathering it is. It is also common to invite the host to a future event of the same level of standing. Such as inviting someone to tea after going to a brunch.
Common Dress code
Light pastels, flowing dresses and shirts, drapes, shawls, veils, and head scarves are all very common. Frills, lace, and layers are most common on dresses. Everything is meant to show wealth, beauty, and power of the kingdom. Although there is no explicit dress code, darker colors are viewed as poor, foreign, and or for mourning.
Art & Architecture
The architecture of Roris is overall a Romanesque feel. The tall windows and vaulted ceilings are used to show the wealth of the owner. The rich marble and brick are inlaid with details of nature in the houses of the higher class. The art is usually abstract and very colorful. Most 3D art is made of precious metals and gems in the same abstract nature.
Common Customs, traditions and rituals
The "Celebration of Light" target="_blank">" is a festival that takes place on the seventh day of the year to honor the Sun, Moon, and Star. It also coincides with a full day of light in most of Roris. This festival is used as a coming of age ceremony for those who have become of age that year. It is also used as a way to formally naturalize those who have moved to Roris.
Coming of Age Rites
Each year, everyone who has come of age has their official coming of age ceremony during the Celebration of Light. They are grouped into their birth month and each group are assigned a helper to apply the ritual paint. They must participate in tasks to prove their worthiness to officially become adults. These are all for ceremony and nobody has ever failed these tasks.
Funerary and Memorial customs
It is common to bury your loved ones in a woven basket of flowers and vines. The plants chosen help represent who the person was in life. Such as rose vines if the person was beautiful, but had a frosty personality or crocus if they were a happy person. When someone dies they don't get a "funeral" they have a celebration of life. Although a sad event, everything is surrounding their life and happy memories of them.
Common Taboos
Most Impactful Taboos:
- Disrespecting or unnecessarily damaging nature
- Asking a man you're not close with to give a speech
- Desecrating a grave or a holy site
- Telling a woman that she looks thin
- Giving a gift of withered and dying flowers or plants
- Not reciprocating an invite to the host when invited to something
Common Myths and Legends
Legend has it that there is a being of flowers and spring wind that grants wishes to those that are pure of heart. The being is said to be located in the meadows near Farfair. In order to meet the creature you must be alone, sitting on a picnic basket with two teacups, and a teakettle full of chamomile. If the being deems you worthy it sits down to drink tea with you. After the tea, questions will be asked. If all answered correctly and honestly, a wish will be granted.
Historical figures
Alden and Lonna Roris were the original rulers and appointed/chosen champions for what is now known as the Kingdom of Roris. They, along with all of the other Roris Royal Family members, are famous across the continent. Although the couple have two other counterparts, in the other Kingdom and Empire respectively, they are credited with many thing still in effect to this day.
Ideals
Beauty Ideals
For women's standards, having a fuller figure is more desirable. This shows the family is wealthy enough to have a surplus of food. For men's standards, looking physically strong and muscular. This helps show that he is physically capable and able to protect their partner/family. Flowers are heavily influenced into the fashion and makeup for both genders.
Gender Ideals
Women are usually put in positions or jobs where they use language. Rorians believe that women are better at communication and social interaction. It is viewed as a high honor to be asked to give a speech or recite something you've written during a party. Although a high compliment for women, it is seen as emasculating for men if they are not related to the person asking. Men are known for usually known for having more physical, hands on jobs. They are expected to be the protectors, to be the muscle and intimidation behind their wife's words. If a man isn't physically strong then he is expected to be a very intelligent man in either academics or of magic.
Courtship Ideals
The language of flowers is something commonly used among those of higher status. Although flowers are still used in the courtships of those with lower status. There is a flower for every step of a relationship: asking the parent's permission, asking the partner out, asking for their hand in marriage, and the official marriage flower that's used in the bouquet of the bride. Chivalry and respect is expected, and meant to be upheld throughout the courtship process. As if it's a business process where you make sure you're not only financially compatible, but also compatible with personalities.
Relationship Ideals
Relationships are usually seen as contractual deals where both sides benefit. Marrying for love isn't unheard of, but uncommon. This act of a mutually beneficial relationship is heavily encouraged by the culture. The more each side gets, the more highly viewed the status of the relationship is. When it is an unbalanced deal, or the marriage was solely done for love, it is looked down upon. The most valued relationship is where both sides benefit a decent amount, and they've grown to love each other. These are also the most stable relationships.

The main organization that is linked to being a Rorian is the Roris Royal Family. The Kingdom of Roris is home to many different unique and powerful organizations. But, when someone hears "Rorian" or "Roris" they automatically think about the royal family.
