Seranna

Seranna is a town located at the foot of the Eastern Adhar. It's a medium sized town that relies on trade from the dwarves that live in the mountains. About twenty years ago, the mayor was killed by a necromancer who decieved the town, using townsfolk as sacrifices to sinister ends. The town was saved by the joint efforts of Lór Estel and Mellora Stoneshaper, a dwarven trade ambassador who as a result became the next mayor. Stoneshaper restructured the ruling system, increasing the power of the council to prevent similar disasters in the future.

Demographics

Mostly humans and dwarves, although due to the towns role as a trading stop, there are usually all kinds. It is a diverse place. Most people are reasonably well off, there are only a few truly rich people, and not many poor. Most people living here are involved in trade somehow, and there are plenty of stores, taverns, and merchants.

Government

Seranna is ruled by the mayor and the Council. The Council consists of representatives from the guilds, the farmers, and the dwarves. The taxes are quite low and mainly go to protection of the town due to its proximity to the woods and mountains, and of course to the Empress.

Defences

There is a wall facing the woods to the west of town to protect it from creatures, and watchtowers toward the woods as well as towards the roads.

Industry & Trade

Seranna has a strong trade relationship with the local dwarven community, and for that reason merchants from all over regularly come by.

Assets

Seranna is one of few towns of its size with a magic shop (of sorts). It's a fairly well-off town, so there is gold to be made. There are three temples, a bookbinder, two blacksmiths, and much more.

Guilds and Factions

The guilds hold plenty of power in Seranna due to its status as a trade town. The mayor is the highest authority, but can be overruled by the Council. The Council consists of Guild Representative (who is chosen by the Guild's Association), a Farming Representative, and a Dwarven Trade Representative. There are regular meetings during which these factions each try to steer things in their favor.

History

Seranna has been around since before the Empire, but it has only become the trade town it is today during the last hundred or so years. Because of its proximity to the Talam Wetlands, the location isn't ideal, but the possibility for trade with the dwarves more than makes up for it. There is good farmland nearby, and so the town continues to grow. Twenty years ago, it was plagued by a necromancer, but it was rescued by its current mayor Mellora Stoneshaper and Lór Estel. The new mayor gave more power to the Council, and since then the town has prospered even more.

Architecture

Most older building are made of wood, but the "new" buildings are made of stone as the town grows in size and prosperity.

Geography

Seranna lies by the foot of the Eastern Adhar, north of the Talam Wetlands. It has woods on one side, and farmland on the other.
