Character Creation
Most standard 5e stuff is allowed during character creation, but there are a few things to keep in mind:
1. Technology
The technology of Tajj Neta is limited. While the land is rich in resources, the population is generally naturalistic and unwilling to exploit the natural terrain to the greatest possible extent. Because of this, technological development is slow and the latest technologies are usually only available to the wealthiest members of society. Anything beyond the most basic steel alloys is exceedingly rare, and infrastructure is limited throughout the world. Because of this, not every piece of technology traditionally allowed in 5e exists in Kōna. The following list describes the sort of weaponry and technology that isn't yet available:- Anything involving gunpowder, i.e. cannons, guns, fireworks
- Anything that reloads automatically, i.e. guns, ballistae, crossbows
- Any sort of artificial intelligence or mechanical life, i.e. robots, automatons (unless magically animated)
- Any sort of seafaring vessel beyond relatively small galleys which are optimized for local travel in calm waters. Because of this, most characters are likely to come from the same landmass
- Any sort of land vehicle that wouldn't have to be pulled by something like a horse or an elephant
2. Magic
Kōna is a low-magic setting. In Tajj Neta, the only known people with access to magical abilities are the Cunningfolk, who essentially act as shamans in Tajj Netan culture. They are respected for their wisdom and religious expertise, however they are rarely if ever seen within cities and towns, meaning that magic is generally not permitted within city walls. The one possible exception would be in a temple or other sort of religious area, however this is certainly not the norm. Any magic users will have to hide their magical abilities in populated areas or will risk being fined/imprisoned/exiled, depending on the nature of their magic.3. Playable Races
Most races accessible in typical 5e rules are available to play in Kōna, however practically all of them will be re-flavored as some sort of human variant. The geography of Kōna is intense and divisive and thus different species of humans have evolved to fill different environmental niches. For example, a traditionally hardy race like dwarves would instead be described as a human species which has adapted to a severe environment, such as the frigid peaks of a mountain range or the stagnant, damp environment of a cave, deep underground. A wood elf could be a human with improved hearing and a natural camouflage to help them survive better in a dense rainforest. A half-orc might be a brutishly strong, light-skinned human from a cold, barren tundra where food is scarce and competition is fierce. Most races are allowed, but check with me first for monstrous races.4. Foundry VTT
We'll be using Foundry Virtual Tabletop (VTT) for playing DnD, at least while we have to play online. Here's the link to join: http://171.244.221.57:30000/ - bookmark it. When it opens you'll be prompted to select a player; choose your name from the dropdown list and then click join. You can join in-browser but there's also a desktop app which I will be using and I'm sure it's probably better.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
