Cunningfolk
The Cunningfolk are masters of nature, healing, and spirituality. They cure illnesses, interpret the stars, and protect Kōna and all her natural beauty. Devout followers of Postheism, they are looked up to by the populace as religious experts and masters of the "Mōnyásòk" - the cosmic threads which bind the universe. Cunningfolk are inherently endowed with magical powers which are believed to be given directly to them by the Creators. It is said that Cunningfolk are born in the holiest sites of Tajj Neta, and as such many families travel to sacred grounds before giving birth, in the hopes that their child will be a Cunningfolk.
Despite their reverence, Cunningfolk are still often societal outcasts, whether by choice or by circumstance. Their magical abilities are valued as a sort of religious conduit, allowing man to commune with the gods, but such practices are often outlawed within city walls, as many fear the power that the Cunningfolk possess. It is said that these Cunningfolk could turn the tides of the seas, splinter the Earth beneath them, and steal the light from the sun, if ever they wished to. For this reason, regular preachers of Postheism are not Cunningfolk but rather ordinarily devout men and women. In many ways, the Cunningfolk are not even seen as human but rather as a spiritual medium, a substance by which men can be reminded of their own mortality and weakness.
Responsibilities
The Cunningfolk are responsible for maintaining Man's relationship with the divine. They conduct healings, give prophecies, and tend to the wellness of nature to ensure balance is kept.
History
The Cunningfolk have been around for as long as The Creators have been gone from Kōna, and were even around before that. Before the gods left, the Cunningfolk were more often leaders of tribes, and magical protectors of the realm. Over time, tribes became city-states and city-states became nations, and the role of the Cunningfolk diminished to what it is now, with the Cunningfolk serving a few specific but still very important functions in Tajj Netan society.
