Ian Turbrand

Noble, Lead Town Council, Owner of The Befuddled Beholder   Ian Turbrand is the owner of the Befuddled Beholder Inn, but he is also a councillor in the town and the richest person in it. He has a vested interest in solving Kingsholm’s problems. He is a fair and noble leader. The majority of Kingsholm adores him and respects his leadership. He enforces the law strictly but leniently. He lives in Watchtower Keep along with his lifelong friend, Sir William Bryson. Both men are single with no family in Kingsholm. Ian owns the Befuddled Beholder Inn and Tavern which he inherited from his father. He likes a good sport and often goes off on hunting trips with Lythious Trailfinder, the local ranger. When he is not doing his civic duties at the keep, he can most often be found at the tavern enjoying a stout ale and good company.

    Introductions and Problems

Now then, allow me to apologize once again for disturbing you at the Temple, believe me I only did so because my need is great. You see the other members of the counsel are away on town business and I'm essentially trying to keep the town running on my own. I have been in Kingsholm all my life, and while it has always had its share of strangeness, nothing compares to recent memory. The Jarl has lost all reason, Animals going crazy, people going missing, strange lights in the North, people claiming the Wood Wards are coming to life, fisherman claiming theres a creature in the lake, it's never-ending madness lately. The city guard, the Sentinels we call them, are stretched thin, the fear and paranoia have them barely able to function. From speaking with the Gommung evoys, I know how you Nosnido, helped the dwarves, perhaps you could lend us a hand as well. I dont know the rest of your stories, but you look like hardy, capable folk, perhaps it was fate or the will of the Gods to bring you all here together at this time in our desperate hour. Would u be willing to offer any help at all? He tells the party, theres a young man named Drash that recently lost his father, he's a good lad and I'm worried he might do something stupid, could you check in on him? Afterwords come back here and we can go from there.

    Day 1
Demon Hound, The Lottery, and the Real Problems

He asks for the details and how Drash was doing and says: I dont know what has gotten into the animals around here, thats not the first time Iv'e heard stories like that lately. We have a local druid, Sylas that lives up north. I have meant to talk to him about it but he often disappears in the wilderness, sometimes for weeks and I have not seen him in some time. Anyway, thanks for looking in on the boy. I must confess I wanted to see how you handled the situation, not only was it was an emotional situation for him it was dangerous with a mad bull that size. You handled both well. I had to make sure of what type of folks I was dealing with, as I mentioned, alot is going on around here and some would seek to take advantage in the chaos. Before I get into our next problem, it might help if you understood how our town is Governed. The town leader is the Jarl, he is voted in by the people, and currently that person is Jarl Korrack. While the Jarl is the elected leader, his power is not absolute, we also have a 7 member town Counsel, where all major decisions involving the town are voted on. The Council usually keeps the Jarl in check and keeps the town safe and running smoothly. With most of the Council currently away, and the mayhem going on right now The Jarl has seemed to have lost all reason. When he was voted in he seemed to be a good man with the towns best interest at heart. But recently he has become reclusive, moslty staying at his estate in The Crown, he's surrounded himself with personal bodyguards and has new personal advisor always at his side. And what he is doing now is something I can scarcely believe. Which bring me to why I need your help... About 6 months ago mutilated bodies of the townspeople started to be found. Recently it was discovered that an enormous demonic hound was appearing every night and killing people but unlike predatory animals, the hound doesn’t consume its prey. Rather, the hellish being delights in the slaughter, leaving horribly mutilated corpses in its wake. The town Sentinels have fought the beast many times and on few occasions they thought they even slew the beast but it always returns.   On the advice of Vornak Ashwither, the Jarl’s right hand, the people have taken to sacrificing one of their own every third day. In a grim ritual, the entire community draws lots; the loser is marched to the ancient standing stones to await his doom. This grisly practice has slowed the hound’s predations, but it is only a matter of time before Kingsholm meets its ruin—at the maw of the devil-hound or through the incompetence of its own leaders. Today in the Town Square of the Crown, they are having a lottery and that means another soul will perish tonight. Please attend the lottery and see what you can find out, try to stop the sacrifice if you can, without bloodshed or starting an uprising. Speak with Nothan, he's the Master of the watch of The Crown, and he is the only person I know that has fought the beast and lived he may be of some help.
