Connie Chevalier
Connie Elizabeth Chevalier (née Cooper, 18th June 1789 - 6th April 1877) was the wife of firearms designer Dorian Chevalier and Grandmother of singer Florence Shaw.
She was born on the Black Patch, a gypsy camp near Redwick to parents Danior and Charity Cooper. She moved down to Knightsbury in 1807 finding work as a cleaner at a pub called "The Knackered Archer". It was around this time that she met her future husband Dorian while he was drinking at the pub one winters night. Two years later the pair were married and expecting their first of six children. After the 1820s, her life greatly improved as her husband was earning alot more due to a string of job improvements meaning that the pair could live comfortably in the nicer parts of the city. During this time she was the one who suggested moving to Kilclare, a decision that the couple would make after retiring.
In 1841, Connie and her husband rode a steam hauld train for the first time on their yearly holiday after initially being skeptical and quite scared of the new machines. She moved to Kilclare with Dorian in 1850, spending her holidays from that year either at her son Thomas' house for christmas or alone with her husband in the Scottish Highlands. She died in 1877 aged 87.
