Lord Vargesh Eremort
Lord Vargesh Eremort is a DeathKinght who secretly rules Solamnia.
He resides in his keep on Death-Chime hill (that was once an island) within the saltmarsh plane known as the shallow sea, beneath the village and castle of Solamnia.
Lord Eremont a vanguard of death knights sworn to serve him. most of them are part of his original retinue of knights, who made themselves a part of his cardinal crime by not resisting him. there are however, newer additions to the cast of death knights. those are Solamnian knights that since then committed outstanding acts of betrayal, selfishness, cowardice or greed.
Before death
Lord Eremort was a close companion of the Archmage Kazimyr and was instrumental for his ascension to greatness.
He was born as the first son of a petty lord in servitude to the Duke of Solamnia. his father's possessions were a string of the tiny Estermont islands in the Solamnian bay.
His family was in charge of helping trade vessels to navigate the waters of the bay (with lighthouses located on the islands) and had little land, influence or wealth.
From a very young age Vargesh demonstrated an outstanding talent for the martial arts, and therefore was summoned to live and train in Castle Solamnia.
When the young court wizard Kazymir was in search of a skilled warrior to help him with his private quest, he arranged for Vargesh to be selected to the King's personal guard.
Subsequently Kazimyr and Ser Eremort (as well as a few more adventurers) completed a series of excursions in the Kingdom of Angmar and beyond, eventually helping the aspiring court wizard (and later the chief consultant to the king) to achieve Lichdom and obtain the control over the kingdom.
In the years he served Kazimyr he met Ristallia- a dark elf. he fell in love with her and married her.
Some years later, his father died, making him Baron Vargesh Eremont Lord of Estermont .
The Cardinal Sin
As the events of The Usurpation of the Throne were starting to unfold, the Duke of Solamnia and most of the high-ranking nobles were summoned to join the king.
Lord Eremort was ordered to stay and guard his dominion.
Ristallia opposed those orders vehemently, pointing out to Vargesh that as a close companion of the King's chief councilor, he should have been summoned.
However, the dutiful Lord Eremont chose to disregard her and remained in his domain, as ordered.
Days later Ristallia and her entourage of drow maidens barged in on Lord Eremort in the middle of his war council.
Ristallia urged Lord Eremort to act swiftly telling him of a vision she had seen. she warned him that leaving him behind to remain in Solamnia was done deliberately and that dire consequences would unfold for him and the entire kingdom, should he refrain from joining the king as soon as possible.
Once more, Lord Vargesh Eremort chose his sworn duties instead heeding of Ristallia's warning, but she was not to be disregarded.
Livid with rage she berated her husband in front of his sworn swords, sparing no insults, playing on his insecurities.
Vargesh stood quiet and frozen in front of his wife, listening to his beloved.
As she stood before him, demanding him to heed her warning, he simply drew out his longsword and struck her a fatal wound.
A frenzied battle ensued between the lord and his retinue of knights and the drow princess and her ladies in waiting.
As a result, none who were in the room survived.
Vargesh Eremort returned as an undead knight serving penalty for slaying his one true love, the one who he swore to protect.
His men were judged as complicit in his sin and rose up to serve beside him.
