Sophia
Queen Sophia
Sophia Alexandria Isabella Margarette von Lexington was princess of America as the daughter of King William I and Queen Ana de Jesus. In 1862, she married King Francisco I of Peru. In 1864, the couple welcomed their only child, Prince John II.
When her son ascended to the throne of Peru in 1891, she was dismayed on his expansionist ideas. She attempted to curve his calls for war against Gran Colombia in order to gain the territory of Quito. As a result, a series of delegates known unofficially as the "Queen's Party" became a voting block in the Peruvian government.
Much like the women in the American Royal Family, she pursued a campaign of women's rights, both in America and Peru. With the birth of her granddaughter, Gabriela, she worked to convince her son to allow her to attend school, demanding she receive the same education rights due to her title. As a result, she managed to gain education for all young girls in Peru, having the resolution pass the Peruvian Congress in 1908.
