Kaiserliche Eisenbahnkorps Beret Pin

The Kaiserliches Eisenbahnkorps, or the German Imperial Railway Corps, has a unique pin for their beret much like other military corps, featuring a locomotive wheel surrounded by a laurel wreath and the Imperial flag.

History

Following the end of the Great War, the German Empire focused oon completing the Berlin to Baghdad railway. However, with the Arab Revolt and the proclamation of the Kingdom of Hejaz and Sultanate of Nejd, the former's disputes over the title of Caliph with Turkey threatened to destablize the region through which the railway would travel. As such, the German army created the Railway Corps as an elite and adaptable unit meant to protect the railway as well as act as mediators between the fighting factions.

Significance

Those within the German military look at the Railway Corps as a group of specially trained unit, while many in the government choose to focus on the cultural significance of the officers in charge in regards to foreign diplomacy and affairs. Therefore, holding an officer position within the Eisenbahnkorps is seen as an esteemed political position as well within German society.
