Lithuania
Lithuania is a nation in the Baltic region, bordering Latvia, Poland, the German Empire, Kingdom of Ukraine, and the Russian Empire.
History
The region that would be Lithuania was among the regions in the Russian Empire invaded by Prussia during the Austro-Prussian War. As Prussia neared St. Petersburg, Russia sued for peace. The Baltic Governorates were divided into spheres of influence between Prussia and Sweden. Lithuania was made an independent kingdom under the rule of Charles, brother to King Wilhelm of Prussia.
Lithuania was an ally of Germany beginning in 1884, though declined to join the German Empire.
During the The Great War, Lithuania declared its neutrality, though gave logistical support to Germany. Lithuania, however, reluctantly joined the Russo-German War, being the only Baltic State to do so. As a result, Germany awarded it with territorial gains.
Following the war, Lithuania joined the Zollverein as a means to benefit economically from a European integrated system. However, with the tensions rising between German and Great Britain and Italy, Lithuania looked for a more secure military alliance. Meetings between dignitaries from Lithuania, Poland, and Ukraine sought to form Intermarium as a means to defend themselves from foreign aggression.
