As the Americans walked into war with their war machine angels, China revealed that they had turned to less technical methods of enhancements and revealed their own soldiers for the new age of war. Creations of science and nature merged, hailed as heroes before the fighting had even begun. Though in secret, the civilians whispered in fear at the sight of what had become of their own.

Many chose to call them SIMICs for simplicity, though the general public took to calling them Hybrids when the eye of the military wasn't on them. SIMICs were designed through the use of genetic modification to induce optimal conditions of parasitic symbiosis with any of the handful of aquatic creature-based parasites that the scientist team had created. Though there are a small number of those born SIMIC, usually only when both parents are themselves SIMIC. On Keltrex most of the SIMIC populace lives below sea level due to their more aquatic affinity, or in the lower levels with easier access to the surrounding ocean. It is one of a few places where they find less stigma against their appearance, surrounded by the distinctive Keltrex natives of Triton and Genasi. They are favored either as guards, or explorers and repairmen of underwater endeavors with many having the capacity to breathe in water without specialized equipment at least where the pressure allows.
