Changeling

Of all the extra-human peoples to come of war time, it was always thought to be ironic that the ones most equipped to be spies came from no government but from the people. No individual or organization ever came forward, not when the first changelings were discovered, and not to this day. Rumors and speculation have created countless theories on the beginnings. But the most that was ever traced was to early communications between the first of them on the Old Net dark web discussing labs and procedures and their recovery. Whoever it was, their only purpose seemed to be to experiment and perhaps give some a chance to escape the chaos to come. At least as themselves...   To date, no one has been able to replicate the original experiments and create more fresh changelings. The shapeshifters are born, all coming from the same few who came from the original project between The Brink and The Deep Freeze. Not all people know that they are Changelings from the beginning. Not every Changeling is born to a direct Changeling parent. The gene that was passed down is sometimes hidden between a generation or two. But the inevitable discovery happens when they change into the same base features they all share. Pale colorless skin and hair, eyes unnaturally dark. Almost like a blank avatar waiting for customization. From there, the change becomes easier each and every time. Able to change themselves into whoever they envision, though they do not have the ability to adapt the same abilities some of the other extra-humans have. It is only a mimicry   The first generation of Changelings never did adopt a name for themselves. It was not until the second generation of them born was discovered that a name was given, taken from the old tales of fae and the replaced children by the same name. While originally meant to be cruel, it ended up serving its purpose and has remained the favored identifier to date.
