Hans Klaid
Lord Hans Klaid
King Hans Klaid was previously the most powerful of the Four Lords in the city of Nurem. House Klaid's ancestors were the traditional rulers of Nurem, but became Lord Stewards when the petty kingdoms of Pallas were united into a single kingdom 75 years ago. Klaid begrudingly served as a ruler of a shared city in the years following the end of the Great War, as Nurem found itself an island in a lawless world.
After Lord Wilders betrayed the other three lords of Nurem to Libertia, Klaid instituted a harsh reign of law and order over the streets of Nurem as the Siege of Nurem came to an end. He declared himself King of Vienar: the old smaller kingdom that unified with the other five Pallatian kingdoms to create the Kingdom of Pallas seventy five years ago. He rules from the The Baston.
After consolidating his new position, King Klaid has turned his eyes eastward, toward the old capital of Sardoron, where the young king Henrik claims the throne of Pallas by right of blood. King Klaid sees Ethar the Lion's cousin as a weak-willed pretender who is either willingly or unwittingly serving Libertian interests as a puppet. Nor does he believe that Pallas can be reunited unless a worthy successor is chosen. His messengers ride out to the towns of old Vienar to summon lords in oaths of fealty, while his army - blooded from the Siege of Nurem - prepare for war in the heart of Pallas.
He is stern, quick to anger and punishes wrongdoers harshly, though he is dedicated to his responsibility and charge as a ruler. He is an ally, and at times friend, of the party - believing that it will be a lifetime before the debt he and the city of Nurem owes them can be repaid. Despite this, he is part of the feudal system and has not extended them the guarantee of his protection or mutual defence unless they swear fealty to him. He is devoted to the coming struggle against Sardoron, Libertia and Kyotai, and believes that the old kingdoms must be restored so that a new king of Pallas can be chosen. Klaid's mood has soured recently as his youngest son, Rudyard, continues to go missing.
