The Baston

A great castle looks over the city of Nurem from its highest hill. Nurem was founded as a simple castle on a hill, with a small fishing community below it. Since then, that castle has become an iconic symbol of Pallatian power. The Baston has been many things in its time, including a fort for armies, dungeons for prisoners and a palace for royalty. These days, it is the home of House Klaid and Lord Klaid’s noble household and guard. Lord Klaid served as Lord Steward of Nurem as his predecessors had done since the Unification of Pallas.   However, the end of the Great War plunged Nurem into chaos, and minor lords stepped up to fill the role of rulers. When Lord Klaid returned from war, he found the majority of his city snatched from him. Yet the Baston, he kept. And it has become a symbol of repression in a city that grows increasingly paranoid by the year.
