Moon Plapple

I am the richest man in Frosthold. I have trade connections that span this continent and the others. My servants cultivate a tree of my very own, and I have never seen a Moon Plapple. I cannot imagine such a thing even exists.

The Plapple tree is a well-documented specimen that has been grown throughout Karos since the time of the Creator Gods. It has been brought to every corner of every continent on the planet, and despite the notorious difficulty of its cultivation, most Karosians have at least seen them, even if they have never partaken. The Moon Plapple is another matter entirely

The Myth

Legends say that, when a single Plapple fruit attains its perfect ripeness under the light of a full harvest moon, a Moon Plapple is created. This exceedingly rare fruit is distinguishable from its more mundane counterpart by its lighter purple color and the faint moonglow that it retains in low light. As the myth goes, the fruit must be consumed before the moon touches it again, lest it rots. It is the rarity of the event combined with the short-lived nature of the fruit that has brought about the lack of belief. Very few Karosians have ever seen it happen, and those who have have routinely been ridiculed as charlatans.

The Moon Trance

While the Moon Plapple does confer the Clarity of the Sweetfruit just like the normal variety, consuming the rare variety imparts what has become colloquially known as the Moon Trance. Those who claim to have eaten a Moon Plapple report an ability to dream lucidly for several weeks afterward. Others have claimed that, after they ate the fruit, they heard a voice in their dreams. None can say if this was the voice of a god or other creature.

The Bounty

Several of the richest Karosians have offered exorbitant payments if anyone can bring them a ripe and edible Moon Plapple. Some seek to commune with whatever the mysterious voice is. Some simply seek the clout of having consumed such a rare and mythical food. One thing is for certain though: there is an obscene amount of gold to be made for anyone who can harvest and deliver a Moon Plapple to one of these individuals before it rots.
