Clarity of the Sweetfruit

Among the rarest and most difficult to cultivate trees on Karos is the Plapple. Possibly left behind by some forgotten god, this fruit-bearing tree has been cultivated (mostly unsuccessfully) for millennia. The sweet and refreshing fruit that it produces is one of the most prized foods in the world both for its crisp refreshing taste and for the clarity it grants to those who partake.

Natural or Divine Origin

Scholars have routinely debated the source of the original Plapple grove. Based on the obvious and immediate effects of eating one of the fruits, many have argued that no simple fruit could have such strong effects while others point out that the world is so verdant and rich a place that it is only natural for its products to retain some of its power. Some go so far as to suggest that the roots of an established tree reach all the way to the center of the world, and that the fruit derives its power from that deep connection.

The Clarity

One thing is for certain: eating one of the sweet fruits from a Plapple tree provides powerful and near instantaneous results. Those who have ever eaten one have reported a sense of clarity and awareness above and beyond what they've felt before or since. They also claim that the fruit has invigorated them even from exhaustion and allowed them to push themselves further than they have before. Some have even reported that consuming the fruit has healed minor wounds.

The Danger

While those who have tasted the fruit of a Plapple tree consider themselves fortunate - for such a tree is a rare and jealously guarded commodity - there can also be a danger. Overconsumption and overexposure to the clarity can lead to a form of dependence that can leave the addict muddled and weak. There have only been a handful of documented cases of this form of addiction, as most people simply cannot get enough of the fruit to form a dependency.

The Variant

The clarity of a normal Plapple is a powerful draw and enough reason for even the most amateur gardener to attempt to cultivate these trees whenever they might be lucky enough to come upon a seed. On extremely rare occasions, however a tree might offer an extra boon. If a fruit reaches peak ripeness under a full harvest moon, it becomes what is called a Moon Plapple. This occurs so rarely, that most Karosians believe it to be a myth, but the clarity that comes from consuming one of these special fruits is orders of magnitude more powerful than that which comes from the normal fruit.
