Lóreath Miriel
When you lose everything you hold dear, there's no telling where you might end up.
Among the oldest of all the first races, the Elves flourished for generations before the The Claiming began. When their goddess fell during The Divinity Wars, many lost their way.
The Sundering
When the Elves lost Corvétárië, the goddess they had worshipped for millennia, many were shattered. Though the balance of their race took up worship of Taelnius, many chose to eschew a deity in favor of the world itself. Those Elves became the Lóreath Miriel. Warped and twisted to represent the part of the natural cycle they most closely embodied, each became trapped in only a quarter of the cycle.
A Culture of Torment
When you are doomed to feel apart, there is not better place to do it than together.
The Elves who became the Lóreath Miriel are trapped and immutable. Each takes on a form that embodies one of the four seasons. In doing so, they exult in the natural energies of Karos for three months but feel disconnected and alone for the rest of the year. Though there is no pain in their detachment, they tend to struggle with mental hardship throughout the rest of the year. Unable to go back to the whole Elf they were before the sundering, they exist in a pseudo life where they only feel complete during their designated season. In an effort to lighten the burden they feel throughout much of the year, these Elves tend to congregate together in communities housing each of the four seasons. This way, there are always members of the tribe who are at their peak and can watch over the others.
An Elf for Every Season
The Lóreath Miriel come in four varieties - one for every season:
- Virëlinth - vibrant and energetic during the spring months, these Elves wilt when their time is over, oftentimes entering a severe depression beginning with the height of summer and reaching its apex once the leaves begin to fall.
- Élanorth - unflinchingly passionate and driven, these Elves burn brightly during the summer months but struggle to remain focused as autumn turns to winter.
- Aurnathis - reflective and wise, these Elves are slow to act, and they never do so without full consideration, especially during the fall. As the months start to quicken and the world turns toward longer and hotter days, these Elves' patience starts to wane.
- Hyalwen - strongest and most stalwart of the Lóreath Miriel, these Elves are the most even-headed of all Lóreath Miriel and most able to function throughout the entire year. However, they do favor the winter months and might struggle throughout high summer.
Distinguishable Traits:
- Colors indicative of one of the seasons
- Vibrance during their assigned season
- Malaise and mental struggles through the rest of the year
Core Ideals:
- Stewardship of the natural world
- Community of varied seasons to support the out of season
No wonder the elves in your world are such ***s! They have severe seasonal depression!
