The Divinity Wars
The races of the Creator Gods had flourished under the protective care of their masters for millennia. Their empires had strengthened and expanded. Their wonders gave them power over the very land of Karos. As their borders began to connect and collide with one another, tensions rose amongst the first orders. In this moment, instead of cooperation, the Creators chose war.
Catastrophic Death
As the race wars expanded to encompass each of the first empires, their rulers turned their former wonders into abominations and turned them upon their enemies. The death toll was staggering. Whole cities were wiped off the map, their people slaughtered or plagued into nonexistence. Storms of magic swept the land, corrupting or unmaking thousands more. In a matter of years, the worldwide population had dropped by nearly half.
God Slayers
Millennia before, as tribes turned to empires and the races organized themselves at the behest of their Creators, the first gods had created The Second Generation to be divine stewards for the world at large. The Creator Gods had lost interest in the world they had chosen to shepherd - they had interest only in their own specific creations, and there was no time in their estimation for such trivial matters as the natural world. They invested these new creations with the very essence of the aspect of nature that they would oversee and with the spark of divinity necessary for them to take over their roles. It was a careless move that would eventually seal their fate.
The Resolution
More years passed, thousands more mortals perished, and all the while, The Second Generation watched on as their Creators not only slaughtered each others' creations but poisoned the world they had been created to serve. When they could stand the destruction no longer, they met in council to decide how to end the carnage. The Divinity Wars were the result of that meeting: the younger gods waged war against their Creators. They used their own adherents, those provided for them by the Creators and those they had gathered on their own, as foot soldiers, and once more, thousands died. When the killing finally died down, the Creator Gods had all been imprisoned or destroyed. When the blood finally stopped flowing, the empires of old were gone - destroyed utterly. All of the wonders they had invented had been spent or obliterated. Those who survived were left to pick up the pieces.
The Aftermath
With the passing of the Creator Gods, the world seemed on the brink of a dark age. The technologies and comforts that people had relied on for so long were a memory. Famine and disease threatened the existence of life on Karos. Once again, the younger gods came to the defense of all Karosians, either through pity and devotion or simply because it was in their nature. They used their powers to heal the world and return the fertility that had been erased by centuries of fighting. The races now had a chance to flourish once more without the interference of gods who would push them into war, and though they have often chosen to squander the second chance they have been given, the end of The Divinity Wars ushered in a new age of exploration and discovery.
