Pink Honeybread

A simple type of bread made without eggs or yeast that has become increasingly popular among the citizen of Stretto. Using a specialized kind of regional honey, Bleshon honey, this dry and dense bread has become a staple in the region after the honey itself was first created several decades ago by the Rinenian Gardeners living nearby. The honey is known for being especially sweet and gives off an intensely potent aroma that can linger much longer than would be expected when heated, which includes being used for baking.

There is no single recipe for pink honeybread, but if it isn't a shade of pink - it isn't Pink Honeybread. Over the past few decades a trend has developed among the middle class where each family has a private recipe they tout as the superior way of making the bread. They brag about how popular their 'secret' recipe is, or tease hints about what special ingredients they use. This mock-conflict between friends and neighbors has lead to a sense of community among folk that would've never otherwise cared for. The powerful scents already present in the vertical city of Stretto makes the normally unpleasant lower levels smell much more welcoming.

Twice a year the city of Stretto celebrates the nearby cloister of faithful Rinenian Gardeners by throwing a festival that often lasts upward of three days. For several weeks after Rinesday celebrations end you can smell the sweet honeybread baking throughout the whole city. The Gardeners are celebrated for bringing important food crops that help sustain the whole city and the honey is sold at a price so low it's basically a symbolic gesture. This means that even the most poor families have an abundance of honey in their homes and fresh baked goods are always popular.
