Rinesday

Regional Civic Celebration

Twice a year the city of Stretto throws a three day celebration to welcome the clergy from the Green Abbey who bring their seasonal surplus crops to the city. Mostly donated to the poorer neighborhoods, for nearly 100 years the Rinenian Gardeners have inspired the citizenry to be generous to those around them by selflessly providing food and other provisions to the city.
The courtyards near the gates are filled with wooden stalls where the locals will sell food made from whatever the Gardeners brought that season or sell their usual wares at a reduced cost in honor of the celebration. In the same way, the crafters and smiths among the Gardeners often have legitimate wares to sell and use this time to make connections with merchants in the city or find customers by setting up their goods in one of the courtyards stalls. Even though these are technically sales, the Gardeners have a reputation for accepting next-to nothing for their high-quality goods and almost never seem concerned with making a profit.

As a nature-based religious commune, the people that live and work at the Green Abbey are not only excellent gardeners and botanists, but they also produce an abundance of diverse crops throughout the calendar year. Since space is limited within the city, occasionally these days are used by the contractors and city officials to communicate directly with the Gardeners and make requests. The Gardeners often try to honor most reasonable requests however the city itself is rarely of much concern to the abbey leadership and they try to focus on helping those most desperately in need.

History

For nearly a century the celebration now popularly called Rinesday has had an important role in the lives of Stretto citizens. Although the practices have varied over the decades, the main purpose has always been to support the people of Stretto and honor a deity of practical knowledge and beauty.
