The Regulatory Consortium

The Regulatory Consortium is an branch of the United Association of Guilds (UAG) whose principles have always been controversial. They have been known to be ruthless, and often rather over zealous, in their enforcement of UAG regulations. The sparrows, and underground organization of smugglers and rebels, who are often the targets of their enforcement tactics, refer to the UAG regulators, who work for the Consortium, as the hawks because of their uncanny knack for spotting their prey from a mile away and swooping down to strike without warning or mercy.

History

  The Regulatory Consortium first came into being when the UAG gained control over Kantostara's main interstellar trade routes through an aggressive campaign of colonization, economic pressure, and military might. Regulations were then put into place in order to maintain strict control over manufacturing and distribution throughout the galaxy. The majority of goods and passengers are now transported by the UAG's heavy freighters and the activities of independent merchants and light freighter pilots are strictly regulated. This has given rise to an underground economy fueled by a network of smugglers and rebels which the UAG regulators are dedicated to ferreting out and destroying. Any merchant or pilot caught engaging in any kind of illicit activity will be heavily fined and banned from the interstellar trade routes, thus effectively robbing them of their livelihood.

Structure

  The Regulatory Consortium is divided into six sections, one for each of the Guilds. Each section is responsible for enforcing the regulations pertaining to the category of commodities of the Guild it belongs to. The hierarchy within each section consists of a central coordinating committee that oversees the supervisors of each sector of UAG territory who are in charge of the individual regulators whose job it it to investigate and apprehend those who break the rules.
