Jurlðhögr
The Great Serpent, the Venomous Death, the World Beast, the Slithering One
Feared and reviled by the Vörðr all across Hadorstadir, Jurlðhögr PLACEHOLDER (/Yurl-THOG-r/, meaning “Malice Gnawer”) is recognized as the serpent that lies beneath the sea and beyond. He is venom, he the one you devours lost ships, he is the middle son of Ljörkr , he is the enemy of Thønülrr the Storm Lord.
Divine Symbols & Sigils
The key symbol of Jurlðhögr is what we would call an Ouroboros, the snake devouring its tail.
Divine Goals & Aspirations
Jurlðhögr is an embodiment of chaos, and he's ultimate goal is destruction: he lies in weight for the end times, where he will rise from the water and poison the sea.
Physical Description
Body Features
Jurlðhögr is a cosmically large serpent, with scales as black as the deepest portions of the sea, that wraps itself around the world tree: according to the stories, he is so large that his body is in at least three of the realms at once and he causes earthquakes as he slithers up and down the tree. Whenever he rests, he circles back to the tip of his tail and bites down on it as he falls a sleep.
Facial Features
Jurlðhögr’s head is not described often in the stories, and not in any great detail: most just assume him to have the ugly visage expected of a snake or dragon. The only parts that get any great attention are his eyes, with shine like polished steel and are the color of dried blood, and his maw, his most emphasized trait: many poems and stories draw references to his mouth, which is filled with teeth as long as Longships and sharper than any ax or sword, each a fang dripping with venom.
