Silverleaf
Capital of the Fairy Kingdom
A forest of green gives way to sprawling hues of purples and blues as the terrain moves from the familiar of the Elven Forest to the mystery of the Fairy King's Wood. Everything here is affected by the magic of the Ancient Fey, power spread across the forest by Festival Snix, turning the once simple place into the domain of one with immense power. As the landscape becomes more colorful and the magic more palpable, the facades of buildings, beautiful in their silhouette, appear seemingly from nowhere, blending in yet standing apart from the wondrous flora that defines this place.
Roads lined with stone and gems, colors abounding from every direction, appear from nothing and outline bits of marble and other colored stone carved into buildings, homes, and businesses painted to match, creating a rainbow of shades as the city grows. Each detail, from the paint to the shape of windows, to the lack of straight roads marks this as a place wholly other, different from the places where Elves, Humans, and Dwarves walk. The Fairies were not interested in structure or perfection but instead chose to showcase wealth, magic, and wonder. It all culminates here in this city, the place where the Fairy King's magic is strongest.
Silverleaf is the largest organized city in the Fairy Kingdom, serving as the capital city and home to Festival Snix and his court. Boasting daily parties and revelries, this is a city that never sleeps, powered by the magic of a man who seems more legend than truth. Here, the Fairies have embraced their heritage, creating places that are rich in color, culture, and whimsy. While considered a place of celebration and debauchery by some, Silverleaf also boasts the kingdom’s academy of magic, law, and politics, the Fae Institute.
Demographics
The population of Silverleaf is the largest in the Fairy Kingdom, making the city one of the great urban areas of the Fairy King’s Wood. It is by far one of the most popular tourist destinations in the forest due to the constant parties thrown by the Fairy King but Silverleaf is also a large trade hub for all goods that come from the forest.
Almost all inhabitants of the city are Fairies, but there is also a number of Elves, Humans, and Halflings that have taken up residence here. These people are often part of Festival Snix’s court or are part of many of the Witch covens that call the Fairy Kingdom home. It is very rare to see Dwarves or Clay Giants here, but many races of the Animal Kingdoms frequent Silverleaf for a number of reasons.
Infrastructure
Fairy Lights
While most of the Fairy Kingdom is lit by standard lanterns, Silverleaf utilizes colorful magic lights that bathe everything in colorful light. These lanterns are just one of many things powered by the magic of Festival Snix.
While a city of whimsy, Silverleaf boasts the same amenities that cities such as Alfensil, the Elven capital, do. In bettering the city upon his coronation, Festival Snix looked to the capitals of other kingdoms and empires, often taking the parts that would make Silverleaf a similar powerhouse. Both an irrigation system and sewer system run beneath the city, keeping the streets waste-free along with the help of specific magic. Street signs are viewable in multiple languages, although the method of showing these languages is not the same as used in the Sapphire City. Much of the city’s systems are powered through strong magic, much of which cannot be duplicated by normal casters.
Beyond technological innovations, the city is simply paved and laid out, with a sense of chaos being the uniting factor of the city. There is little rhyme or reason to the placement of buildings, roads, or street lights, but everything is brightly lit and well-designated. Different types of stone and wood were imported for the various buildings and all were designed and decorated due to the whims of whoever owns and inhabits the building. Colorful orbs light every inch of the city, often in shades of blue, green, and purple, giving the whole city a whimsical air.
Silverleaf is fully set apart by how fey the whole place seems.
