Spanalia

Spanalia, the Kingdom of the Risen Sun, is a kingdom known for its rapier bladesmanship and worhip of Lathander.

Founding

Spanalia has a storied history. Thousands of years ago, human missionaries known as the Paladins of the Red Sun journeyed to the Underdark to spread their worship of Lathander. They encountered grave setbacks, and many paladins met a gruesome end. Worse still, they were lost in the Underdark. In fact, they were lost for generations upon generations. So long, in fact, that the group would become fluent in Undercommon. Children would grow up hearing second-hand stories of the surface, while knowing only a world of darkness. This all changed when the group met a band of drow that had escaped Lolth's infuence. These drow had stolen a map that could lead them to the surface. As the legend goes, Lathander's light shone threw the caves and illuminated their path, and the group would go on to form one of the most powerful countries in Imago.

Age of Agression

Spanalia is a powerful nation that has gone through many changes over the years. Avid worshippers of Lathander, the people of Spanalia were formerly agents of a dominating and colonizing king. This led to the god abandoning them. Spanalia has become a much less conquest-driven and much more virtuous nation, and Lathander's light shines upon them once more. In recent years, however, the country of Orion has taken advantage of Spanalia's pacificaiton. The colony of New Spanalia is slowly being conquered by the Orionian government, and these losses have weighed heavily on Spaniards. Some in the nation argue that they should return to their age of agression in Lathander's name. Others see the situation as a test of faith. Whatever their opinions on the war, Spaniards agree on one thing: Orion bears the marks of Evil.
