Samoith

Umbria, the oldest of the Imago nations, is a land of history and honor, defined by a strong reverence for Kyuss. The country has been around for over 7 millennium, though it has changed substantially over time.

The First Millennium

The first millennium of Samoith was a time of great change, but was marred by bloodshed. An army from Netheril invaded the mountains of what would later become Samoith. They were originally unsucessful. This was until the three brothers were in leadership. They made a pact with an elderich being named Kyuss. This granted the brothers each a magnificent pair of wings, a stockpile of undead worms, and powerful magic spells, and they used these items extensively. They forced the snow elves of the mountains into a bloody war with the nomadic wood elves that lasted many years. The Netherese invaders were heavily outnumbered, even with the addition of the snow elves. With the eldrich magic that they had gained from the pact, however, they would secure a bloody victory.

The Age of Undeath

The victory of the Netherese led to the necessary formation of the nation of Samoith, and the age of undeath. It was discovered that the Kyuss worms that the brothers were given would raise the dead, and would spread quickly. They used this fact to raise undead armies of fallen soldiers to finish their remaining foes. However, this unintentionally led to an outbreak of these Kyuss spwans. And as the people of Samoith would discover, these creatures were extremely difficult to slay, and could not be easily controlled. This led Samoith into the first of its many crises.

Rulership

A leader was needed to deal with the problems plaging the nation. Famine, disease, and the outbreak of Kyuss spawns had led to a breaking point for the people. The brothers, however, had very differing views on how to lead the nation. The youngest brother wanted to give his people freedom by calling upon the gods to help slay the Kyuss spawns. However, the middle brother would not allow this, as he saw it as a provocation to Kyuss who had helped them in the past. Both agreed that the eldest, who would have typically had succession, should not be allowed to rule because his father was an island gnome, making him a half-blood. Samoith was fractured. However, the people rallied behind the middle brother. He was charismatic, confident, and powerful. He unified the people under a flag of red, purple, and blue, and his vision of Samoith is the one that we know today.

The Brothers Three

Folk tales of the Brothers Three have been passed down for millennia, and many monuments and artworks have been made in their honor, but their true appearance is largely unknown. What is known is that these warriors carried weapons that were not known to exist at the time. While other combatants at the time were fighting with spear and atlatl, these brothers carried blades of steel and even a magical staff, all of which was completely unheard of at the time, and would not be recreated for about 6000 years. These artifacts are under the protection the Samoith government to this day.
