Maya Lynn of Yilva

"Mission."
A mortal daughter of Aelayeron's minor deity Suitalk, Maya Lynn of Yilva was a girl both anxious, yet mischievous; thin, yet strong; quiet, yet said more in a word than some did in a hundred. (This article contains spoilers for Almost Like Love)

APPEARANCE

Maya was her mother come again. Minor details between parent and daughter were obvious, such as ears and hair, but the resemblance surprised even Suitalk with how strongly the girl took after her.   Yet Maya was a sior, and a sior all to herself, boasting hair the dull faded green of old moss and so skinny one could believe her sickly. Yet Maya wasn't strong for her age, nor for a sior, but strong for a human in general, able to give those twice her age a run for their money in terms of physical feats.
"My Sissy's so strong, she's like an ant! If an ant was this big!"   — Izzy, holding her hands apart at the width of a sizeable pie

Personality

Maya was most-characterized by a general sense of reservation, even to those closest to her. Unlike her sisters, she wasn't one for talking, often only answering others and with as little as possible. Conversations would boil down to entire paragraphs being answered with one, two, or occasionally three words at a time. While her lack of communication at times made understanding her difficult, Maya's family didn't fault her for being the way she was.
"So?! Maya talks! Maybe you can't understand because your ears are bad, idiot-stupid!"   — Chel

Suitalk's daughter sat at the parapet overlooking Yilva below, the sun now a dull orange sphere melting into the horizon. And to here again I find you, mine beauty, she thought. "Maya? Are you well, mine love?"
The girl kept her gaze forward. After some time, she uttered the heaviest word in the world.
"Sad."
Suitalk nodded. "May... Would you allow Mommy to sit with you? Until you feel better?"
The girl kept her gaze forward, and her mother waited.
Her mother waited, and the girl kept her gaze forward.
"Okay," Maya said at last.
At the same time, Maya had a penchant for mischief, often venturing to the city below to sow chaos simply for its own sake. Although she'd occasionally ask her sisters for aid, these "missions" as she called them were something all to her own. Maya would do everything from swap "push" and "pull" signs on doors to hang up missing posters for a fictional pet goldfish of hers. These pranks would unknowingly cost Yilva City the yearly equivalent of a public school's budget in total lost revenue due to the disruption of daily infrastructure.   Though different than most kids her age, Maya had dreams as any child would. She was most curious to see what lay in the then-unmapped regions of Nagua Nui as she'd been told smaller folk like her sister dwelled there among walking buildings. When asked if she wanted any career in particular, she'd usually point to her mother.

History & Notable Relationships

At only ten years old, Maya would be witness to some of the most important events in not only Aelayeron's history, but Ikwento as a whole.

Early Life

Prior to the birth of Izzy, Chel, and Maya, their mother Suitalk would suffer years of melancholy following her last child's departure. This was uncharacteristic of the All-Mother who had previously accepted her childrens' inability to stay with her, believing she'd prepared each of them as best she could for life below the High Wall. At some point during this depression, Suitalk would find a strange egg-like object left within her estate. Unsure of what else to do, the All-Mother took it to bathe, cleaning it until a click alerted her. The top of the egg split apart to reveal a sleeping creature which looked like a cross between a baby and an octopus. Turning to reach for a basin so as to carry her new arrival, Suitalk was greeted by the sight of two sleeping infants clutching one-another.
"And there you were, naked and sleeping so softly in the grasp of your sister, two little tufts of gold and green within mine basin."   — Suitalk
Much of Maya's early childhood consisted of time spent with her sisters and their mother. As they grew older, visits from their pediatrician and extended family such as Princess Telili helped to acclimate them for their eventual trips to the High Wall outside of Suitalk's estate. This in turn would eventually lead to trips to the city below, albeit with close supervision by members of either the church or government. Whether or not they realized it, Izzy, Chel, and Maya were never truly beyond the notice of the powers which protected them.

Almost Like Love

The year of 1865 saw the infamous High Voltage Varrick attempting to assassinate Maya's mother for reasons unknown. For a long time, even after the confirmation of the outlaw's death at the hands of the Yilva City Rollers, sleep would come difficult to the girl.   Maya would play a small role during the events of "Almost Like Love," frequently seen with her sisters and their mother. The steel man Heavy noted her resemblance to her mother, causing a flash of nostalgia to a simpler time, when he enjoyed idle days within King Calenvo's Grand Archives as both a cook and guard. Perhaps this is why following the steel man's reunion with the All-Mother, he requested to make lunch for the family.

Notable Relationships

Suitalk: Maya clung to her mother fiercely, much to the latter's concern. Although age had lessened this anxiety on both accounts, learning of the eventual exile all of Suitalk's children went through undoubtedly shook Maya like nothing else. It was one thing to have to move away and start your own life, but to never again see your mother upon adulthood? Truly, it seemed life was just too good. And although the sadness such knowledge brought never truly left Maya, she also felt better knowing her sisters would be out in the world with her.   At some point after the events of Almost Like Love, Maya would cause her mother the worst panic in memory. Unaware of her own strength, she would absentmindedly snap off her horn as Suitalk tested out a photo camera one autumn day.
"Baby! Why do such a thing?!"
"I'unno."
"TO-WHAT-DO-YOU-MEAN-I-UNNO?"

Isabelle: Izzy thought of her sister as the funniest girl in all the world. Yet like any good treasure or honey within pancakes, Maya's brighter qualities only took a bit of patience to discover. Izzy was especially grateful that Maya knew well-enough to keep her and Chel's shenanigans in check, because if Maya was serious about not doing something, maybe it wasn't the best to do.   Maya would often spend time with her sister, the latter leading the way on some adventure around the High Wall or the city below. Often times, their journeys would be with the express goal of some new discovery or subject to illustrate. Izzy wasn't the most-skilled at drawing, but her unbridled passion with logging down all the wonderful things of the world was contagious, and soon Maya took up the hobby herself (which was something their mother found especially exciting considering her own penchant for painting).
"Heehee! Sissy!"   — Izzy

Chelopheeliell: Chel was often on the receiving end of Maya's mischief due to the former's penchant for taking advantage of or outright bullying their middle sister. Yet Maya admired her older sister in ways few ever realized, wishing to be as confident and headstrong. Although the two would often butt heads, at times even coming to blows (to call them "fights" being generous on Chel's behalf), Chel and Maya never doubted their love for one-another. Chel's demeanor was rough, bordering on abusive to some, yet the slightest insult to those she cared about called upon a wrath that was boiling and volatile.
"YOUR MOTHER HAS TWO PUSSIES! THE SECOND ONE IS YOU!"   — Chel, shortly after Maya was insulted by another child
Whenever Chel would gain Maya's attention at some scheme being hatched, the result was something unable to be ignored. Both girls had the uncanny ability to bring out the best (though some would say worst) in one-another. Along with their third sibling, the girls would do everything from building functional catapults to a flying machine, much to the dismay of their caretakers.

Abilities

Infinity Pool: Shortly after Maya was born, her mother would notice the energy of life that all beings had did not behave the same way for her. In Suitalk's own words, Maya's aura was "muffled, preferring to stay within her like water in a jar." The condition rendered even the most mundane of magical tools useless in her hands. Maya was simply unable to connect herself with the greater energies of the world, it seemed.   Yet it wasn't without its benefits. Theorized by Maya's pediatrician, one Aelita Sanchez, Maya from an early age developed far faster than her sisters or any other children Suitalk had prior. When her sisters were learning to crawl or sit up, Maya was walking. When they were walking, she was running and climbing. At less than a year old Maya once climbed out of her crib and into her sister Chel's during the night, much to their mother's confusion.
"I worry for her. Perhaps it is mine own nature of being, but when I hold her, Mymy feels... colder, after a time."   — Suitalk

Ah absolutely love her. The "missions" never fail to crack me up, while her relationship with Suitalk and sisters is so sweet. I love how fiercely Chel defends her too.   Also that art of Maya and Izzy melts my heart.
