The Anomaly - Hamlet Battle Map
Introduction
Okay, welcome to the Battle Map commonly known as The Anomaly. Its real name however, is 'Hamlet'. Don't worry, I'll do my best to explain everything!
As you know - as a Galactic Gladiator, you'll be expected to fight others regularly. That is how we gain points, rankings, money and, most importantly, extra Lives. The fighting is done on -
Battle Maps
A Battle Map is a place where we fight, like this one we're in right now. If you've ever played a game, you might have explored different maps or areas. Each time you picked that same map, the game would load a new version of the same map - most of the time. That's the way Battle Maps work in The Dungeon as well.
As a new Galactic Gladiator, you too will join a shitload of Battle Calls. Each one will load in another Battle Map. Each Battle Map will be untouched and clean rebuilt version of it. Well, clean depending on the type of map of course. A desert map will be sandy enough.
Once loaded in, we enter and fight in that setting as Galactic Gladiators - a crappy honorific if you ask me.
A cosy Hamlet
This one here too, is one of those Battle Maps - loaded and reloaded in each time it is selected for a Battle Call.
It looks peaceful, doesn't it? A narrow street with some houses, a few meadows near them and then those large green hills in the distance - and the ones with the trees are especially fancy to explore. The map is built with an interesting attention to detail, really. You can enter the houses and their little shops to browse the wares. A peaceful map indeed - if it weren't for the bullet holes and charred burn marks all over.
Anomaly!
So, the first time this map was loaded in, it didn't seem very special. We just used the peaceful setting to kill each other in as per usual, and destroyed some areas of the map in doing so. But after a few reloads, it was clear something odd was going on. The damage dealt was never reset; it kept loading in as the damaged version.
We were like, WHAT??? That's marvelous!
Right. So we got together and named it The Anomaly. It was an interesting turn of events. For once each and every Galactic Gladiator agreed on something:
We should abstain from damaging The Anomaly and cherish it if we find ourselves facing off on it. It was a nice occurance.
Indeed, so we did. Some of us didn't even want to fight when they entered this one, and it became a bit of a -
Shrine.
Not long after that, all of us kept to the unwritten rule of preserving this Anomaly. See those three oddly placed roof tiles on that little bakery?
Some Gladiators even started repairing the damages in an attempt to rebuild the 'Hamlet'. That's a rough task though, as you can only use what is already generated inside a Battle Map. And this roofer clearly had no skill whatsoever.
The result is a mish-mash of personal touches. But still, it's the only place where we really get along, which is a nice to have. Some even worship this Map as if it were a shrine, but that's a few bridges too far for me.
So let's enjoy this Anomaly for a while and shoot one another through the face before the Battle Timer runs out.
Agreed, Kelita. It seems poetic enough.
