Payainan Islands

The Payainan Islands are a large archipelago just south of the equator. It consists of more than seventeen thousand islands, encompassing approximately 735,000 square miles. The largest island, Semeru, is over 50,000 square miles on its own, and has over half the total population of the archipelago.   The Payainan Islands have been partially under the control of The Empire of Albion for the last eighty-five years. The largest islands are firmly in the Empire's grip, and several of the smaller ones host governments that are partially or completely under the sway of the Albion colonial government. Other islands actively or passively resist Albion incursion. Albion's interest in the islands is largely agricultural. They farm sugar, coffee, chocolate, and many other tropical crops that fetch good prices in the Empire. Albion also uses the islands as a prison colony, transporting people there for periods of seven years or more.
