Ashroot Concord
Also known as: The Beneathkin, The Threadless, or The Second Sun
Origins:
The resistance began as a network of escaped slaves, midwives, and spirit-weavers who used Miell’s forgotten dream-threads to preserve names and histories the city tried to erase. It now operates through catacombs, aqueducts, and abandoned shrines, with cell leaders called Whisperhands.
Tactics and Goals:
- Magical Forgery: Using stolen or salvaged runes, the resistance creates false ownership documents to free halflings long thought bound.
- Smuggling Networks: Allied Goblins , rogue sailors, and Maharluini sympathizers help ferry families out of Frae , often through spell-hidden outrigger canoes.
- Sabotage and Information Theft: They infiltrate scribes' halls, noble estates, and even guild offices to steal names, contracts, or memories used in binding.
- The "Second Flame" Prophecy: A belief that Miell will ignite the Weave anew through the hands of the smallest—that halflings will be the “spark-bearers” when the Loom frays completely.
Structure
The Ashroot Concord avoids hierarchy—most members don’t know who leads, only who speaks for their small cell. However, key figures include:
- Mother Pela – matron of the riverbend commune
- Cricket Thimblewhistle – scout and courier
- The Weaver’s Mask – a spell-stitcher whose true identity is unknown
Each cell keeps a woven tapestry of memory, enchanted with minor magic. These “memory-knots” are passed down or hidden in sewer alcoves, shrines, or chimney crests.
