Destroying a shrine to Kurtulmak. Taking from the shrine, while seen as a terrible act, is not entirely a taboo, as sometimes kobolds have to take from the shrine to fight back invaders. However, destroying the statue will cause the Kobolds to have a blood vendetta against the destroyer. In one instance, a dragon was killed by his own minions, because he had accidentally destroyed this shrine.
History
Kobolds come from the God Keromak, who was one of the first gods created. He served Tiamat as a loyal servant, and when she was banished to hell, he created the Kobolds to serve Tiamat and her minions. The Kobolds would be placed all over the realms, serving chromatic dragons all around. When the Chromatic Dragons moved to the material plane, so did the Kobolds. Their only purpose was to serve their Dragon masters, until 1330wr, when a ship of Kobolds headed by a Half-Dragon Dragonborn named Kurtbain would come to hunt down the runaways. The Kobolds would reproduce and station themselves in towns and cities, as well as caves and caverns, acting as spies watching for Dragonborn sightings to report back to the main force. Kurtbain would be killed in 1410wr, felled by his own sword turned against him. The remaining Kobolds would flee and scatter, being forced into hiding by those they hunted.
Many Kobolds hid in city sewers, either joining thieves guilds, gangs, or forming their own tribe of Burglars. Most Kobolds didn't try to instigate fights among the humanoids of Godsen, usually because they feared these weird new two legged folk, and also because said two legged folk are stronger than them. Many Kobolds would also be picked up by evil monsters as servants, slaves, and fodder. Some lords would use Kobolds as their servants, though this is fairly rare. Kobold life, because they spent all their life living with their dragon masters, would be difficult. They would manage, until 2017wr, when the Calamity event struck the world. The destruction would force many Kobold tribes even deeper underground. Some tribes ended up digging into Dwarven mines.
A war between Dwarves and Kobolds would break out during the Calamity event. The first skirmish was in 2021wr, when a tribe of Kobolds had accidentally broken into De min av Hilastra, specifically the bronze mine owned by one of the sub clans of the clan Evraal. Dwarven workers would use picks and shovels to try to rid the Kobolds from their mines, but they could not, as the Kobold lair was far too complex and trap-heavy to even come close to exterminating them. Many more of these fights would break out in other mines, and no one could really win a fight, since the Kobolds didn't have the weapons or the training to fight the dwarves, and the Dwarves couldn't navigate Kobold passages without running into dead ends and traps, so no one could gain the upper hand upon each other. Up until 2100wr, no Clan or Tribe could get far into the other's territory.
In 2100wr, Elders of the Ithrun clan came up with a solution to fixing their Kobold crisis. They would get dwarves who could speak Draconic, and share a peace treaty with the Kobolds. At first, the Kobold tribes refused, thinking it to be a trap. But, after about 2 months, the Kobolds eventually had given in and accepted the deal, leading to a begrudging alliance. The Kobolds dug tunnels and the Dwarves mined the resources in said tunnels. They where such good workers that word spread around the underground, and in 2120wr, most Dwarven clans had Kobolds in them as workers. Their knack for Jewelry also allowed them to make well made Necklaces, bracelets, and jeweled gauntlets. These Kobolds would become the City Kobolds, and when the Dwarves began moving back out into the world, some Kobolds followed.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Kobolds are considered a monstrous race, meaning most creatures dislike them. Gnomes, Pixies, Dragonborn, Lizardfolk, Troglodytes, Sprites are hated most by Kobolds. Kobolds have an almost disturbing fixation on dragons.
Kobold and Gnome relations are as old as their gods. Kurtulmak, the Kobold god, hates Garl Glittergold for numerous reasons. Kurtulmak's hatred moved onto his created species, which in turn would cause Gnomes to hate the Kobolds for causing them specifically problems.
Pixies and Sprites are hated by Kobolds because of their relation to Gnomes, and because they are annoying to the Kobolds.
Kobolds dislike Dragonborn, Lizardfolk, and Troglodytes because of their hatred of dragons. Most Kobolds see the Lizardfolk and Troglodytes as abominations trying to escape their blessing, and they see Dragonborn as the only failure of dragons.
Metallic Kobolds
Godsen has Metallic Kobolds. These Kobolds are incredibly rare, and are most likely not going to be found anywhere other than in Ovak. They happily serve their Metallic Masters, and are hated by regular Kobolds, as they were made when Garl Glittergold stole a small piece of Tiamat's draconic power, about the same amount as what Kurtulmak took, and made his own Kobolds as a way to "One-up" him on his own species.
