Velenar Orfikaen

Childhood and Upbringing

Velenar Orfikaen was born in the Thorn Elven town of Stellcida in 171 AG. He became close childhood friends with Solaster the Wise, the future ruler of Stellcida. Together, they would spend long hours studying the ancient art of Soul Magic. Velenar would repeatedly practice the dangerous technique known as Soul Channeling, despite numerous warnings from his friend Solaster. Soul Channeling is a risky magical ritual wherein a user attempts to bind a soul from the spirit world to his own. Users can be deceived to bind with an evil spirit that corrupts their soul. Velenar's soul would eventually succumb to the same fate. As corrupted souls are seen as a threat to the stability of Stellcida, Velenar was exiled in 188 AG at the age of 17, as the Divine Vision faith of the Thorn Elves does not allow killing their own kind.

The Touched Souls

Velenar left for Ponrada to join the Touched Souls, a secret organization of Thorn Elves whose souls have been corrupted. They search for the long lost Soul of the Prophet, the soul of Eldarin the Prophet, a figure said to have the knowledge to restore the perfect Elven traits of Thorn Elves. Velenar continued Soul Channeling for many years, slowly damaging his soul more and more.   Things would change in 195 AG when Velenar managed to bind a powerful soul that very nearly cost him his life. This was no ordinary soul, but the soul of Morpheteus, an ancient Mage King from a distant land, who is said to be the one to discover magic and created an empire with it. The sheer might and authority of the soul of Morpheteus instantly purified Velenar's soul of the corruption, freeing him from the influence of the Touched Souls. Velenar, now clearly recognizing how far he had fallen, swore loyalty to his saviour Morpheteus. In turn, Morpheteus would grant Velenar magical powers and fighting skills beyond the capabilities of a usual Thorn Elf, proclaiming Velenar as 'Blade of the Mage King', 'Last Knight of the First Scholar' and 'Servant of Morpheteus'.

Current Situation

After his pact with Morpheteus, Velenar tried returning to Stellcida. When he saw Solaster was now ruler of Stellcida, he tried embracing his old friend, promising that he had changed. Solaster commanded him to leave and never return, telling Velenar:

"Replacing one demon with another does not result in change."   - Solaster the Wise

  Velenar now roams the lands as a mysterious sellsword. While his pact with Morpheteus has given him immense power, Morpheteus does not allow him to use magic recklessly. Morpheteus' ambition is to restore order and balance into this world, which he believes has been disturbed by his introduction of magic to the people, especially to those not worthy. As Morpheteus has a complete hold on Velenar's soul, Velenar must walk a fine line between wielding his newfound abilities to serve Morpheteus and not offending his patron by abusing his powers. This all results in an extreme aversion to those who handle magic without care.
