Zara Stenmark

In the northern mists of Grimsey, Bardur mourns the gentle memory of Zara Stenmark, the Yergralffe who once walked its stone paths with warmth in her eyes. Daughter of Melvin Stenmark, niece to stories of ancestors like Eilar, Zara's life became intentionally common yet unforgettable as it pertained to one historic event. She passed away from the Fogholt Plague, alone with her newborn child, mere weeks before her husband discovered the cure that would break the hold this deadly sickness had on the realm. Remus has stated that his wife’s illness was what drove him and his two siblings into the dead motain of Fogholt. Alas, he was just too slow as they found the cure and he returned home, his wife had already passed away. Their son, Xarus, grew in her failing strength, marked less by inherited magic and more by the absence of it—a quiet echo of the plague that took her kept his essence from ever emerging.   She married Remus Silverstaff when they were young, he was a loving man back then but was always driven. He disappeared into notes scribbled by his father and experiments trying to break through to a solution. His search for a cure to the Fogholt plague utterly consumed him.       Father left Brugar because of an outbreak   Bardur was a smaller population but still had work   Met Remus here, his father left the mainland to research the plague in the north.   Zara visited Brugar and Westmoor often but felt safer with Remus in Bardur   She was sick with it over a few years and Remus was away looking for a cure. He missed his time with his wife and their son was born during her sickness. Shamans assume this is why her son was missing the Silverstaff magical ability passed from his father.   She found out that Remus was seeking the affection of Alma Nuada. He was rejected but many speculate that this distraction led to him finding the cure just too late to save his childhood sweetheart. Remus has argued for years that his pursuit of Alma was not romantic and he wished for her daughter to join his schooling as she was gifted with vast magical ability while his son was a squib.
