Laenor Vereau stands tall in Kärnten’s tournament grounds: Belcoursian blood in his veins, the wind lifting the cape bearing the Signoria’s crest. His blade, polished to a mirror-shine, reflects the banners of his sovereign Belsian Province. Across the melee ring, Marcus Windslayer has funded the training of his nephew-in-law since he was a boy.
Trynia, his sister, watches from the stands, her expression proud but guarded—she hears the title “Blade of the West,” but she knows the weight of that name. Laenor fights with agility and discipline, steel flashing in arcs refined by tourney-blood and sweat. He does not revel in spectacle—but in each nod from the Dame of West Tsar, each cheer from Kärnten’s people, he feels his oath: defend, excel, honour family and province.
Laenor stepped away from leading the mercenary army of his nation when his uncle called upon him to fight in his name during theTenth Eastern Moot, where Marcus attempts to lay claim to the title of Eastking.
Although she is more stateswoman than fighter, his sister Trynia took over command of the March of the West Tsar as they maneuvered their forces towards the Dresdon province. As the army met with an ally of Marcus and fellow champion, Dekla Colt, the town of Koh’Las was hosting the finale of the festival circuit. Trynia was assassinated during the Second Act of the play by assailants in the towers overlooking the show.
Word has just reached Laenor of his sister’s demise and his reaction is yet to be felt by the enemies of West Tsar.
