The Lady of the Waters

In many ways an innocuous deity, the Lady of the Waters is a God of wild places and untamed hearts, once favoured by children sworn not to marry. She is Forbidden by the Gods of Moray solely because, as a wild god, her domain infringes on that of the Horned God.   Worshippers of the Lady of the Waters worship in secret and usually without large-scale organisations. They may create shrines in wild places with water, but in the ordinary course of things they commune with their goddess through water of any kind, from a basin to an ocean. They mind their own business for the most part, but are sworn to defend those who are in danger of being forced into marriage. They recognise each other by wearing an accessory made of lightweight, flowing blue-green cloth, such as a veil, girdle or scarf.
  • Wardens (guardian) are protectors of wild places, especially the Primeval Wilderness, and the people who live there. They seek balance with nature, and often make alliances with druidic groups.
  • Guides (orator) spread the world of the Lady and encourage harmony with the wild. The are fierce rivals of the Banisher of Monsters' cult, and live a precarious existence on the edge of censure by the Common Church.
  • The Waterwed (exemplar) are mendicants who fulfil the Lady's stricture to help the young escape arranged and unwanted marriages. They usually do so by recruiting these people into their clergy and thus under the protection of the Lady.
