Blue Bend
Once a simple village and now a small military base, it is usually referred to as Azurwyc by native Dragostahni, but is marked by its literal translation of Blue Bend in maps produced for Mercantile speakers. It’s so named because of its proximity to a particular curve in the great river, sitting in a shallow valley after the southern mountains. It has taken on a new prominence as the important first stop for the border crossing train that shears through the corner of Raurmarik. Much of the old village remains, structurally speaking, but a wooden palisade has been erected around it for defensibility. The soldiers stationed there are responsible for performing essentially as customs operatives—preventing the smuggling of controlled goods and undesirable persons out of or into the country.
There is a thriving, if small, market in the civilian buildings that remain, and travelers can easily find accommodations for sleep and meals to be had if their train or caravan must be halted for an extended period. There are shops that provide provisions, sturdy clothing and equipment necessary for traveling in the mountains as well as inexpensive, decorative jewelry and lapidary work. The province of Rogosta is famed for its traditional metallurgy, and some of that may be showcased at its mouth.
Defences
A double circle of wooden palisade around the original village. A pair of ballistas are mounted on the walkways to deal with trolls that sometimes rise out of the river.
Natural Resources
The region is rich in natural resources, with readily available timber, a river, and various stones as you move out of the village proper and into the hills.
