Benata the Dragon of Any Color

Summary

Benata was hatched by Thres, her egg being heated unknowingly by his forge as he was crafting a piece of armor for Greneshka. During the hatching process, her egg tumbled out of the forge and broke open to reveal her covered in scales, wings and a tail. When she opened her eyes and saw Thres and Greneshka, they marveled at her as she slowly shifted to look like that of a dwarven toddler.
As time would go on, she'd master the ability to shift into any race with perfect grace, though with a wild nature about each form she took.
No one knows for sure what color dragon she truly is, and there have been arguments and even wars fought over this very subject.

Historical Basis

Some believe that the truth is written in a large book of all beings in The Library. Others claim to have held her shed scales from when she walked this planet and know her color.

Variations & Mutation

Some variations claim that she burst out of the lava full grown, prepared to scour Mount Celestia for adventure. Others claim that she came out of the egg itself already in the form of a dwarf. There are some in the dragonborn clans that believe her to have come out like them, and that she'd secretly laid her first eggs to be the mother of dragonborn kind.

Cultural Reception

Dragonborns refer to her as their mother, the one who brought them to this plane and who watches over them and their hatching.
Dwarves regard her as the adopted daughter of their own patron gods and offer her wary offerings - given she is a water loving being and dwarves are rather adverse to water.

In Art

Many depictions of Benata show her as a dwarf, with wild hair and loose clothing. There are some pieces that are named the "True Form of Benata" depicting her as other colored dragons, or even as a dragon with every colored scale throughout. All of these paintings claim to be completely true to her dragon form. None have been proven correct.
