Hill Dwarves

“Ah’ little dirt ‘en tha’ nails, shows tha’ ‘ard work ‘o tha’ Gorney Drachev. We work tha’ land ta’ make the brand o’ ale we enjoy most.”
— A quote from one of many Gorney oral traditions
With songs flowing through the meadows, laced with the laughs and cheers of the Gorney Drachev, the city of the Second Sons of Vykovat is always a destination for any individual seeking a peaceful and enjoyable time. The Gorney Drachev, unlike their other kin, are seen as a peaceful race of people. However, in their past they have been known to fight alongside just causes that presented themselves. These creatures are masterful animal handlers, farmers, woodworkers, and craftsmen. Although they reside on the surface of the earth, it is very common for them to live in beautiful homes beneath the knolls of the realm. The lifestyle that these Gorney Drachev live is one of prosperity and kindness.

Racial Abilities

The Gorney are the purest of all the base races of Gaia. Their pure minds and kind hearts extend out to the magics of the world. Corrupting truths, compelling truths, illusions, all are thwarted by the pure spirit of the Gorney. They are not entirely immune to these magics however, just highly resistant.   Pure of Heart: A Gorney is nigh-incorruptible, almost all of them believe in the unique goodness of each and every living being, and that everyone has something good to offer the world. They tend to be kind, understanding, and forgiving, and most will attempt to not kill under all but the most dire of circumstances. Though this can prove a detriment at times, it also causes them to be near-immune to corruptive magics, and they are capable of seeing through many illusions. Deceivers, specifically, are unable to use their magics on the Gorney, though they're still usually more than capable of physically tearing them apart. Which they do, Deceivers will always target and kill Gorney first.   Hope's Light: As long as a Gorney still has some hope, they may hold their hand aloft and generate light like a torch. This light counts as sunlight.   See Cold Resistance.

Redlines

Regular persuasion can still work against a Gorney, though it is still almost impossible to persuade them against their core values. Similarly, extremely well-crafted illusions or powerful truths will still have diminished effects on them. In addition, a Gorney who drops their prohibition against killing without extremely good reason will immediately lose both of their abilities until and unless they go on a personal quest of atonement, assigned to them by a deific being.

Culture

Culture and cultural heritage

The Gorney Drachev are focused on the community rather than the individual. Their selflessness is something that their kin never understood, yet respected and were grateful for. However, it has been known that the Gorney Drachev, at times have created a small government to suit the needs of their people. The structure of it was rough and not demanding in nature and focused on the equality of all within their homeland.   The Gorney Drachev are seen as the passive subrace of Drachev and are not very religious in terms of ceremony when compared to the other Drachev races. Their dedication to the Titan of the Underdeep is shown through their appreciation of all he created and it is believed by the Gorney Drachev that their labor above the stone shows their open-mindness and care for all that was created for them.   The Gorney Drachev find themselves in the middle of the races in relation to height, while also lean and toned in their physicality through their generations of working land, tilling soil, carving wood, and handling creatures of the bramble. They can grow facial hair but it is nothing like their counterparts in the caverns of the mountains. However, a deep respect and admiration is held by the other races for the Gorney Drachev and throughout the ages they have been seen as the “Pure Drachev” as their hearts and minds are the most sound and pure out of the entirety of the Drachev.   Almost all Hill Dwarves speak Yazyk and Common.

Religion

Though the Gorney widely accept that the progenitor of their race is who the Cave Dwarves say he is, they by and large do not worship him the same way that many of their cousins worship their progenitors. Gorney Karlik himself, or so they say, frequently tells those who he was in contact with that he should not be worshiped, that he created the halflings for the sole purpose of bringing more joy into the world, and to experience more joy that he might live such things through them. Instead, the majority of Gorney worship the Dragon of Miracles, Ceithus, bringer of life.

Family

Hill Dwarves often stray towards long, well kept together family-lines. It is very rare to see a Hill Dwarf couple which doesnt have more than 2 offspring, usually averaging anywhere between 6-8 young children to help carry on the family legacy. The somewhat sheltered life of these kids amongst the Shire leads to a thriving and loving family dynamic most of the time, and the parents tend to align their children to follow the same paths that they did. That being said, it is not uncommon to see rebellious teenage to young-adult Hill Dwarves that try and leave the Shire and their families behind to try and break the mold of idle farmer cycle they're subject to.

Food

Hill Dwarves are known to be a gluttonous when it comes to food and drink. Most often shoveling themselves full of breads, ale, sweet desserts, ale, muttonchops, vegetable stews, and more ale. This is often times due to the supreme quality of the freshly picked produce and farm-raised livestock that the Hill Dwarves raise with nothing but pure love. As such, even though there is often times a low-supply of food that the Hill Dwarves can send off to other settlements or nations, the prices of this food often skyrockets and is embraced as a delicacy amongst the other nations and races littering the Old World.

Common Dress code

Adorned in ordinary clothing, the Gorney walk about in casual farmer-wear. Their visage smothered in dirt from long days at their respective workplaces in the farm and workshops. The style of one's clothing often times plain singular colors or plaid, as the Hill Dwarves are more worried about having durable clothing able to resist the elements of mother nature in their daily farming life cycles.

Accessories

The Gorney almost at all times are seen carrying around their trade tools on a workbelt about their hip. Not wielding any proper fighting weapons, if a Gorney were to get into a fight they most often times are forced to result to their shovels, small hammers, axes, or whatever else they happen to have on them. It is extremely rare to see a Hill Dwarves with anything more than a small dagger in terms of hostile weaponry.

Art & Architecture

While most of the Gorney are focused upon their simplistic farming lives, when the Sun goes down and the Hill Dwarves move into taverns to enjoy dinner with their families and friends... it is not uncommon for their to be a bumbling selection of musics blaring throughout the taverns. Hill Dwarves don't have a huge eye for fine arts, mostly focusing on items that gives them a warm sense of familiarity and nostalgia. This lack of materialism helps lend to the pure soul of Hill Dwarves, throwing out paintings worth millions in Armusian currency in exchange for a shoddy crayon drawing family picture.

Major organizations

The Hill Dwarves control a monastery upon Anoma, located on the southern part of the west coast. The grounds are equipped with housing for guests, medical facilities, a tavern, as well as entertainment options in case of long-term visitation. In addition to offering a haven to any who may need it, the monastery provides medical services, educational courses in a variety of fields, free meals for as long as needed, and a neutral area for parties to meet in order to discuss any sort of political dealings.   In the old world, the Hill Dwarves are a mostly isolationist focused community, which tended to all converge on a few singular "Shires". Being one of the most pure beings on all of Gaia, Hill Dwarves manage to live in relative peacefulness in the olden lands, often times protected by their fellow Cave Dwarves and Human cultures. In most of the Old World, the relentless and inhumane attacking of Shires is considered to be a war crime, leading to a mostly peaceful and undisturbed life for the relaxed nature of the Hill Dwarves.
