Forsaken
(Forsaken are a CA race, and may not be played without making an application or breaking one of the Seven Tenants as an Empyrean.)
((Forsaken older than 900 ages cannot be applied for without a Unique CA requiring higher standards.))
“My once-smooth skin has become a patchwork of bumps and ridges, my golden hair is now as grey and dirty as the cobbled bricks at my feet. My strength, which was once great, fades with every passing day. But I can not, I WILL not, return to the false gods that are my makers and beg for their favor. I will no longer be the puppet of ambivalent beings who delight at the slaughter of babies, even if it costs me my life.”What happens when an Empyrean repeatedly strays from their sacred oath, or provokes The Celestial Conclave’s ire? What is given may be taken, and those Empyreans who falter in their sacred task while under the gaze of Parabos’ watchful eyes will receive harsh punishment. Thus are the Forsaken made, Empyreans stripped of their immortality and blessings granted to them at birth, forever outcast from their own kind. Comparatively to other mortals, they age quickly, the tides of time held back by their immortality suddenly being released upon them. Very rarely, through performing an extreme task of repentance, Forsaken may be restored their immortality and boons by the conclave, although most Forsaken either do not attempt to do such a task or die trying. Forsaken used to be a rare sight, but, due to the conclave tightening their fingers around the Empyreans to combat an increase in demonic influences, they are becoming far more common.
Appearance
From the moment a Demi-Celestial is stripped from their immortality, the newly turned Forsaken is considered an egregious exaggeration of disgust and olden age. Whilst not malformed or completely hagged, a Forsaken often are mistaken for elderly widows and not that of their holy counterparts. Just a few inches above their head however would lay their halo, often the only discernable difference between that of a Forsaken and regular human. These halos are devoid of any light which the Demi-Celestial may have previous had, and lays as a stagnant reminder of the grace which the Empyreal-blooded creature has fallen from. In some extreme cases, a Forsaken may have dark black or grey iris, though this often correlates directly to the magnitude of the tenant which they have broken. Something egregious such as murder of an innocent Demi-Celestial or slander amongst Parabos leaving a Forsaken with dark black iris to try and correlate with their 'monstrous' and 'infernal' standing in Demi-Celestial society.Body Modifications
While Empyreans typically abhor body modifications, the forsaken often feel otherwise. As they choose to step down and become more human, some Forsaken change their minds on this. It is often found for some Forsaken to take on the body modifications of whatever culture they settle down upon, though some, despite their separation from the Celestials, seek to keep their bodies unmodified.Racial Abilities
Disconnection from the Light: Having fallen from the grace of the Celestials, Forsaken lose many of their traits they once had. One of the most notable is the loss of light radiating from their halo, and their bright skin and hair. Forsaken’s Halos remain above their head, a dull and otherwise useless disc, unable to be removed except through death. Their skin also becomes more pale or grey, their hair draining of all color, and their eyes following suit. Unnatural Aging: Not only having their immortality removed, Forsaken have been cursed to age twice as fast as their human counterparts. Regardless of whatever age the Empyrean once was, they are considered to be of 30 ages at the time they become Forsaken. This grants the forsaken 17 ages before they become elderly, and 20 ages afterward before they die of old age. See Cold Resistance.Redlines
Forsaken do not have any boons of their original origin, and as such the death of an empyrean will blind them if they’re looking. They also bear normal Gravican strength, it takes effort to be able to lift anything just as it would a normal human. Forsaken are able to feel fear, and to some this may be overwhelming. It is impossible for an Empyrean to no longer fear anything, though they may still act despite feeling fear.Naming Traditions
Other names
Most Forsaken shed their original namesakes and take on new ones. While these are often Gravican in nature, Forsaken may take up names of whatever culture they decided to settle within.
Culture
Culture and cultural heritage
Having left their own culture and people behind due to their actions or beliefs, Forsaken often find themselves intermingling with GGravican culture, the most akin to their personal experience. Though it is not uncommon for them to settle down amongst most any human culture.
The Trial of the Forsaken
Those who have forsaken the will of the Celestials or merely decided to step down from their designated path are offered but one singular opportunity at redemption in the eyes of the Celestials. The Forsaken must come forth to an established Enclave and seek to start the trial, this being the only instance in which Demi-Celestials will acknowledge a Forsaken. Little know what happens within the Trial of the Forsaken except that few ever come out of it alive and they are often forever changed from it. The survivors of this trial often become some of the most adamant and strict of the Demi-Celestial forces. They are unable to speak about what they endured during the trial by the will of the Celestials, this not changing even if they fell to being Forsaken again. The trial usually requires great sacrifice mentally and physically during the trial. The Forsaken, having experienced fear for the first time in their life and likely a self value of life that other Demi-Celestials often don’t have over their goal and use, find their newfound weaknesses played against them to the best of the abilities of the Celestial Judge. A being made by Parabos whose sole purpose is to judge Forsaken and his judgement is a harsh one indeed. During the trials they often have mind tricks played against them including near impossible odds to defeat, often requiring the Forsaken to sacrifice themselves intentionally. Though this is but just one step in the trail, other challenges having the Forsaken slaughtering homes of those who sheltered blooded as a stark lesson for anyone else to look upon. Forsaken Still speak Celestial and Common.Morality
In order to understand the forsaken, one must first understand what makes them different from their empyrean kin; their mortality. Forsaken, relative to the other races, age far faster, an ever-present reminder of the ticking clock than mortality has now brought them. Along with this comes the first experiences of fear for an Empyrean. This feeling of fear can often at times prove to be overwhelming to an Empyrean as they never experienced it before and now their stark mortality stands out to them.Religion
Having known an overbearing religion most of their life, Forsaken usually steps away from active worship of any being. This is not true for all Forsaken as some feel the need to devote themselves to a new god as they don’t know how to not be in worship and pursuit of some higher being. Typically those Forsaken who do start to worship a new god, often choose to worship the Divine Son.Family
Any Empyrean-blooded family a Forsaken may have had is often completely thrown to the wayward. Marriages, siblings, and even parents are often broken apart by a Demi-Celestial being coined as a Forsaken. As a result, most Demi-Celestials whom go about this dramatic change often are forced to resort to other races in order to find their love. Despite this, the Forsaken in question will be considered infertile and unable to properly created a legitimized blood-bound family with any regular GaianCommon Dress code
It is not uncommon for Forsaken to be left with nothing more but rags, cloths, and whatever they can find. Thrown out of their only chance at home, it is quite common for a Forsaken to bumble around as a form of hermit in search for greater meaning in life. If they are able to find themselves presented in human society, often times they will dress themselves however their culture or newly freed mind so fits.
Major organizations
Other than their large, floating island in the northern reaches of the Old World, the Empyreans have few settlements. Here and there they have enclaves in other nations, but none so major as their primary city.
