Ironside Antics Part 1
General Summary
- Yvette Von Brandt (Xander), Drum (Max), and Splint Frogcatcher (Zoe) start outside Ironside, having been called here by the mayor, Agatha Bolton, for "diplomatic issues". Speaking to Agatha, they learn that Ironside has been routinely threatened by Hacresh in the past due to Hacresh maintaining a mundane mineral monopoly, and Ironside being one of the only places in the Plains that also produces mundane minerals, that being iron. (It's important to note that Hacresh has something of a one-sided rivalry with Naschiem, as Naschiem has a monopoly on Magical mineral production, and has much higher profits than Hacresh for this reason. The ruler of Naschiem, Duke Garrick Estholme, is quite dismissive of Viscount Shen in person, to purchase Ironside for Hacresh. Agatha is willing to pay the adventurers very well if they get Barnelle out of her town. She doesn't particularly care how they do it, so long as Ironside doesn't face the consequences of however they decide to do it. Agatha also tells them that the mine recently unearthed a new iron vein, which she thinks is why Hacresh has renewed interest in the place. It's determined that Agatha is not telling the full truth, but isn't lying either.
- The party asks Agatha to leave so that they can discuss. She does, and they start snooping. Yvette's "That's Odd" ability keyed them in to the burnt remains of a letter with the Hacresh sigil in the fireplace. There is enough left to identify handwriting, but not enough to determine what the letter was. The letter being here is strange in and of itself, as Barnelle has been in Ironside for a week (because I got the scale of the Plains wrong, Agatha sent for adventurers before Barnelle arrived, because she was told he would be arriving several weeks in advance.) but the letter was burned earlier that day, based on temperature.
- Spoke to Agatha, found Eversand in her house, as well as some old letters that indicate she was an adventurer a decade ago. There's old mining equipment piled into the other rooms, and at the very back, some old armour stands with fancy, expensive armour, and some distinctive weapons.
- Side quest, help the witch Kupyn Baro Baro with the stone stew. Grab Vegetables from Farmer Greetle by repairing his plow thing (he has Wickerman Carvings, weird), Grab the Shallots from the Brownies by repairing their house. Fight the Rocks, Make the potion, Grab the Potatoes from the Steim clan (Specifically Jaget Steim and Gimlet Steim) by giving the potion to Jaget Steim.
- While inside the Witch's shack Yvette noticed some ointment that glowed a blue hue similar to Eversand.
- Group find Barnelle Shen, Gotthard, and @knight in the tavern. Drum approaches and convinces them all that the party are ghost hunters looking into ghosts in the mine.
- Blue residue on mining gloves in Steim compound, Eversand stuck on the head of a pick.
- At dinner noticed Jaget handing Gimlet something glowing and blue.
- Noticed that Gotthard and the knight don't seem keen on doing everything Barnelle says.
- The knight has like a religious experience every time they see Splint.
