1492 DR 4 Nightal (The Drawing Down)

General Summary

Overnight, Pern experienced a dream that he interpreted as a missive from Waukeen. In the morning, he discovered that his hand-crafted holy symbol, broken into several pieces by Ovak a few days ago, had been miraculously restored.

Lishel provided them a note, presumably from the Rivington Rat they'd talked with the night before, which read:

Shava's stash looted.

Gang is broken.

Good luck.

Over the course of the morning, they learned that the Rivington Rats had indeed crumbled in the wake of Shava's death. Members have variously left the profession, changed gangs, or gone into business for themselves.

Pern, Ovak, and Ghesh also escorted Arfur back to his villa, to meet and make peace with the refugees squatting in his home. The meeting went well and discussion on how to proceed began. Heading back into town, the trio met the three rakes Dorn, Stoman, and Grigov, whom Pern and Ovak met on first arriving at Rivington. The young-ish noblemen were dismissive of the group until Pern prevented them from moving on to the villa. The confrontation grew briefly tense, but the rakes backed down thanks to the added presence of Ghesh. The tall one, Dorn, claimed the group was "taking a side" by declaring themselves friends and allies of Arfur, but offered no further details.

Ovak ordered Skalech to follow the rakes as the trio returned to ask Arfur about the encounter. Arfur revealed that the trio had purchased a monkey puppet from one of the shops he deals with in the Wide, the main market of Baldur's Gate, but then returned a tenday later, ordering him to deliver the puppet to the Ebertrume family, a lesser patriar clan with assets in butchery and baking. Arfur was in the Lower City wrestling with these instructions when the refugees inhabitated his villa. Ultimately, he decided not to comply. When Pern and Ovak first encountered the three rakes, they intended to confront Arfur about his failure to deliver the puppet, unaware he was still in the Lower and Outer City.

Ovak suggested they should try to meet Nine-Fingers Keene, head of The Guild, and hopefully learn what might be going on with the Ebertrumes. Leaving Ghesh to protect Arfur and the refugees, the duo headed down to the fishing pier at the north end of the village. Arriving, Pern recognized the beach and Wyrm's Crossing to the east as the locations he encountered in his dream. On the beach, they met four former Rivington Rats hanging out by one of the gang's 3 boats. The group is interested in continuing the work of the gang, and was waiting to see who showed up. Ovak and Pern hired the group to take them across the river to the Lower City and remain on "retainer" for the next 5 days.
