Nexus Station
Nexus Station is the primary administrative and bureaucratic hub of the Fortrop. It houses the headquarters for the various state ministries and serves as the exclusive residence for their directors, chief strategists, and other high-ranking officials who are not members of the Council of Commanders.
With a population of approximately 5,000, Nexus is the center of the Authority's entrenched power structure. It is where the Council's decrees are translated into the policies and regulations that govern the entire spacecraft.
Daily Life
The station is hushed, filled only with the low hum of data servers and climate control systems. Daily life is highly structured, dictated by ministry work schedules, strategic briefings, and formal social events that are an extension of the political workday.
The Nexans are influential and powerful cogs in the Council's machine, acutely aware that their positions are conditional and that a single misstep can lead to their immediate replacement.
Demographics
The inhabitants of Nexus, the Nexans, are the permanent bureaucracy of the state. Their culture values protocol, information, and influence above all else. A person's status is not determined by wealth, but by their rank within a ministry and their proximity to the Council.
Social interactions are formal, quiet, and transactional, often involving the careful exchange of information and political favors.
Weaving is used as a tool of administration; but it's mostly regarded with distrust. Therefore, the use of it has to be subtle.
Government
Nexus is governed by a council of ministry directors who answer only to the Council of Commanders. Security is absolute. The elite Aegis Guard, tasked with protecting the entire command structure, maintains a heavy presence. Every entrance to the station has multiple biometric and cognitive checkpoints.
The Watchers here are programmed for counter-espionage, constantly monitoring data traffic for unauthorised transfers and flagging suspicious behavior among the officials. They are an active tool in the silent, ongoing power struggles between the different ministries
Points of interest
The Chancellery is the central and most imposing building in Nexus, housing the main offices for the Ministries of Infrastructure, Economy, and Civil Affairs.
The Judicial Spirehas the headquarters for the Fortrop's judiciary. All major political trials are conducted here in heavily secured courtrooms.
The Valerius Archive (sealed) holds the former headquarters of the Ministry of Intelligence. Since Commander Valerius's disappearance, the entire spire has been sealed under a level-one quarantine by the Aegis Guard.
Nexus Residences are a series of secure, high-end residential towers that offer their inhabitants a degree of comfort and privacy second only to The Iris itself.
Architecture
Positioned directly below The Iris, Nexus is designed for efficiency and to project power. The layout is a grid of wide, formal avenues connecting imposing ministry buildings and secure residential towers. The architecture is monumentalist, featuring clean, severe lines, dark metal alloys, and polished stone floors, which are a luxury on the Fortrop.
The aesthetic is austere and formal, with bright, functional lighting and little public art beyond the official seals of the ministries displayed on their respective headquarters
