Hydras
Hydras are large, wingless, quadrupedal, multi headed Dragonkin, native to the swamplands and deep jungles of Exorsia.
They are amphibious, preferring to live nearby areas of water, allowing them to both hunt in water and on land. They are solitary creatures and extremely territorial, even to their own kin, outside of matting. Hydras have been well recorded hunting and killing people.
Hydras grow to their full size, about the size of an adult Dragon, in 10-15 years, and they are usually highly acidic, particularly their blood, which can easily melt metals.
Hydras are famed for their regenerative abilities, allowing them to quickly regrow body parts, particularly their heads. Most Hydra’s begin their lives with five heads, often accumulating more by the end of their lives, with some being recorded with 12 individual heads. Cauterising the Hydras wounds with fire is the only known way to halt their regeneration.
Believed to be because of this regeneration, Hydras have a considerably long lifespan, and don’t seem to weaken with age like most creatures, with some Hydras being recorded reaching over 1,000 years old, though the majority of Hydras are killed before this point.
Like most Dragonkin, Hydras have a very basic, primal intelligence, and are incapable of humanoid speech. Hydras also share many qualities with Acid Dragons, such as their long, snake-like heads, and acidic blood, suggesting that they are related.
The most popular origin of the Hydra, formed through scientific speculation, and collaborated with ancient myth, suggests that the first Hydra came to be during the Silver Age, from a union between an Acid Dragon and the Goddess Echidna.
