Ceto - The Sea Witch

Ceto is the Mother of Sea Monsters. She is a confident and wicked Titan, who takes pleasure in the sinking of ships and the drowning of sailors. Many of the Sea Monsters that reside in the deep seas of Exorsia and the Elemental Plane of Water were originally the children of Ceto.   Ceto is the Child of Gaia, and it is said she was created within the Elemental Plane of Water sometime during the Silver Age. Another myth suggests that Ceto was created when Gaia stole the seed of Poseidon, making Ceto also a child of Poseidon.   Ceto is also the primary consort of the Goddess Echidna, together they birth horrific monsters into the world. Ceto is the mother of Krakens, Sea Serpents as well as the famed Charybdis and Scylla.   Because of Ceto’s reputation she is usually only referred to by epithets, such as “the Sea Witch” or “the Queen of the Depths” as to avoid invoking her or drawing her attention.   Ceto is said to reside within the Deep Ocean or the dark parts of the Elemental Plane of Water. She is also worshiped by the Cecaelia who worship Ceto as their Divine Patron. Sailors may also beseech Ceto to avoid their ship being sunk.

Apperance

Ceto is exclusively depicted as feminine, commonly as a plum middle aged woman with long black hair and dark blue skin. She is usually depicted nude, with a crab claw instead of a right arm and eight octopus-like tentacles instead of feet.   Ceto is also sometimes depicted as an elderly crone or as a gargantuan kraken.
